We recently did a soft-launch of an important new feature for Care2 Groups: Every group now has the opportunity to have its own mailing list (often called a "listserv").  We'll soon be doing the "full launch" of the service, so we wanted to give you a little more insight into where we're going with all of this.

Why Mailing Lists?
We surveyed Care2 Group Hosts and leaders of small nonprofit organizations and identified this feature as one of the most important tools we could add to our site.   Most members of groups, whether here at Care2 or elsewhere, frequently check their email but only occasionally visit the group's homepage. Thus, the best way to help keep the most group members informed and connected is via email.

Listservs also traditionally come with associated hosting fees/hassles, so by bundling this with our free group tools we hope to provide a simple, effective solution.

Mailing lists vs Discussion Forums
Our new mailing list service is an extension of our popular discussion forums.  If you like the way the discussion forums work today, nothing needs to change -  you can choose to interact with them exactly as you have been. But now, in addition, you can also receive the discussion posts directly in your inbox, or post to a discussion from your email.  The mailing lists functionality is simply more convenient for some people.

Control
Everyone wants control over what comes into her inbox, so we've provided a range of options.  Every group member will be able to determine what kind of communications she receives via email. The options are:

  • Do not receive any email. Read group posts and announcements on the website only.
  • Host Announcements Only: Receive only important host announcements.
  • Daily Digest: Receive a daily email containing all group posts and host announcements made the previous day.
  • Individual Email: Receive an email for each post and host announcement made to the group.

Getting Everyone On Board
Given the importance of this feature, every new member to a group will be asked to set their communications preferences when joining a group. In other words, when you first join a group, you'll be asked to select one of the above settings to determine if/how you want to receive messages via email.   In the near future, we'll also be requiring all of our existing members to identify your preference for each group you're a member of.  You'll only have to do this once for each group (or you can simply set all of your preferences via your My Account Notifications page).

We want to make Care2 Groups the most effective platform for group organizers to make a positive impact. We hope you'll find this new mailing list feature a useful and powerful new service!

Great, beats the system you've got now where one can send to only 10 in your friends group.... that's a hassle...

Care2, I mistakenly submitted an "Individual Email" entry for a group, but I'd like to change that to "Web only". How do I go about this? Thanks, Derek

It's nice to have lots of choices; however, I wish you would have set the "web only" option at the top like you have in your list above instead of at the very bottom.

For Derek WILCOX to change to Web only.
Go into the group you joined and under the picture of the group on top right of page you can go in and edit email prefrences and change it to web only.
Hope this helps

I want to abolish all health insurance as we know it. I would like to put it on the ballot for all Americans to vote on. What do you think?
I think I have one of the answers to our uninsured as well as insured Americans. I would like to end employee benefits when it comes to health care along with other types of insurance. I also want to see the all-knowing, all-deciding that is done by insurance companies when you visit a clinic or hospital. The way I think this would work is to have a pot of gold that all people could contribute to. If every person was to pay. for example, $100 per person into this pot of gold. All medical bills would be paid out of this combined pot of gold. The only criteria as to whether your medical bill gets paid would be to answer yes to just two questions: 1. Did a certified doctor, clinic or specialist order the treatment, medicine, hospital stay, or referral to a specialist or any kind of preventative care? 2. Did you pay your $100 fee into the pot of gold for every member in your family, monthly? (4 X $100=$400 for a family of 4). This is a very good price compared to what people are paying today. If so, your bill will be paid without question. This will put an end to insurance companies as we know it. A small percent would be put into an automatic system that doctors and clinics and hospitals can be put into the system to submit their bills. This will put an end to insurance companies playing doctor. This will put an end to medicare. This will put an end to figuring out whether it was a prior ailment, prior to paying into the fund. If your payments are up to date, your bill would be paid without any further questions. If there are 171 million uninsured Americans and you multiply that by 100 you would have quite a pot of gold. Do the math 171 million times $100 = ? This would also end the millions spent every month in administering payments made to medical facilities and the cut in payments now in Congress for doctors by Medicare. Now the question of veterans; I would like to include veterans with the $100 per month payment being paid by the government and have them integrated into the system that we all agree is the best medical care in the world. When it comes to those who can't pay the $100 per month because of disability or unemployment or the working poor, their $100 per month would also be paid for by the government. I think if Americans band together we would not change medical care as we know it. we would only change the way we pay for it. Your comments? just1woman
We don't have a problem with medical care, just the way we pay for it.

the idea is a good one and much appreciated by group owners and co managers ~hosts..however, I am still having a problem with my email acct. I have never been able to open my old folders, big problem i have hrs of work in those I need for the group. I just don't understand what the problem is. Now with the groups email coming quickly, I would really like to have my email working properly before that happens. Have email or filled out a "Help Request" , but I have received anything. I have tried to follow the help info page, didn't help. I am not a pc wiz, or my pc doesn't like me or C2 email doesn't like me at all. I will check back maybe someone can help me resolve this issue before another launch.
I live at this site, I have basically given up all other sites but just need my email now. Sorry this is a bit off topic, it frustrating and I don't know how to fix it...maybe its not my fault..I don't know.
Thanks Randy for all you and the C2 team do. Maybe I will get my email working properly with a little care 2 help.*S*

I don't know how to open and read the letters in
my mailbox. I'm new at this but old in age. Can someone steer me through so I can read the comments I've received? Thank you, VIOLET Y.
