Following is a letter I sent out to all my CodePinkers to remind them to VOTE FOR PEACE this Election Day. I decided to share the info here in case any of you might be interested in taking the pledge and voting for PEACE:
Spread the word!
Attn CodePinkers, Peace Activists, Family, & Friends,
Tues, November 7th, is Election Day and I hope that you will join me and nearly 150,000 other Peace Voters that day in Voting For Peace!
The VotersForPeace Pledge (www.votersforpeacepledge.us) is a statement of support for peace candidates who publicly oppose wars of aggression and support a withdrawal from Iraq.
Visit the Peace Majority Report (www.peacemajority.org/ratings.htm) for peace ratings of all federal candidates and go to www.vote-usa.org to find state-by-state information on voting poll locations and ballot candidates. Please visit VotersForPeace at www.VotersForPeace.US to sign on and help spread the word! I think we all want change folks. To do this we have to get out and VOTE. Lets get these war-hungry people OUT OF OFFICE and vow NEVER to support any candidate who supports this war or any other. Its time to bring our troops home and bring peace back to our world. Together, we can make a difference this election day.
Don't stay home this year, we need YOUR vote. Every vote counts. I will be at the polls and I hope to see you there too!
Thank you,
Dariana Donovan-Burge, Coordinator CodePink: Women For Peace of Peoria http://daridonovan.net/blog/

Dariana, I'm new to this website, so I hope I'm using it correctly. I agree with the urgency for peace in Iraq. But the war in the Near East is only one of our nation's problems. Following is a message I'm presently sending out to my list of women's groups in America. I believe you might be interested in it.
A Plea to the Women of America
I originally structured this message for change around the theme of equal political rights for women, because the male rulers of this country, like those of all other countries fear women in power, and for more than 200 years have seen to it that few independent-thinking woman gained political power in this country. You can rest assured that no change will happen in your lifetime, not while you live in a society whose political system was created by rich, influential, white males for rich, influential, white males.
But, the need for urgent change in the U.S. has suddenly become more urgent than mere equality among the sexes, or races, or religions. It has now become the crucial need to survive.
Our most knowledgeable scientists have claimed global warming will reach a point of no return within the next ten years making the threat to all Earth life a bitter reality, if human pollution of the atmosphere is not substantially reduced. Since that warning, these people have made a distressing discovery: global warming is melting the permafrost (soil that is permanently frozen in the Arctic and Antarctic), and not only releasing its trapped carbon monoxide into the atmosphere, but also the huge quantities of methane gas trapped for thousands of years. Methane is even more efficient than carbon dioxide in trapping heat inside the Earth's atmosphere. This means the critical point of no return will happen sooner than ten years.
We’re all familiar with the axiom, “Don’t change anything, if it works.” As true as this is, so is its reverse just as true, but not as familiar, “It’s logical to change something that doesn’t work.” History reveals that the political system of the United States has never worked for ordinary Americans, but has severely restricted their political and economic opportunities. Yet other than the attempt by the so-called “Populists” of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, or the attempt by young students of the early 1960s, whose disillusionments with the American System are chronicled in their Port Huron Manifesto, Americans have rarely made a serious attempt at such a change, and have studiously avoided public discussion of the topic. Why?
I beseech you as an intelligent person to read about a fictional "America" on the website http://www.voicesfordirectdemocracy.com/dd-page.html, and understand, once and for all, there is, at least, one alternative political system that promises a better and fairer society. There is hope for a peaceful and safer world, a world from which our elite rulers shrink, for such a world would make everyone politically equal, depriving them of their political power.
When you fully understand the promise fictional America holds for American women, workers, and minorities, forward this email to your relatives, friends and members of your women's organizations. And then, let us join together to make the necessary change. My fellow Americans, let’s do it.
Hopefully,
Lee Gottlieb

I hope we get to vote for more than just the lesser of 2 evils. I think a jury-selection type method would be better for choosing representatives and senators.

Has anyone considered putting Al Gore on the blank line for president? He is certainly a person of peace and the environment.
My husband I bought "An Inconvenient Truth" last month and we are sharing it with our community. I encourage everyone to check out this movie and share it with your friends.
I appreciate your contribution and blog.

Code Pinkers, there is no stopping those who want power, ergo, no way to stop war. Even the Christian God advocated war, and annihilation. If God is wrong then you'd better stamp out religion, and promote truth, even under our elected elite. |
