Blog: Cheats,Con Men, Dishonest People, Fakes.liars and phonies

Here on care2 as well as the internet in general there are many cheats, con men, dishonest people fakes.liars and phony people.. There are some people on care2 who ask for donations for several supposedly good causes but when investigated the causes are not really a registered charitable organization and the majority of the money that is received goes into the con mans pocket,,

It bothers me to know some of these people and I am reluctent to approach them because I believe they will retaliate by posting even more lies or trying to prove something through posting even more bogus claims..My word of caution to everyone is before you send one thin dime check out the person who is asking for donations..Check out their claims..Are they really who they claim to be..Is the orgnization they are requesting money for really a registered charitable.. organization..

Good advice. As you say -- it's certainly not just Care2 -- think the whole web today is pretty representative of what's going on -- "out there." Runs the full spectrum -- from outright liars, fakes and frauds -- to genuine, caring and dedicated individuals.

As far as Care 2 goes -- I haven't been here that long but it strikes me as very much better than average -- think the vast majority are honest -- sincerely trying to make a positive difference. Wish the web had more sites like Care 2.

I found a site here on Care2 advertising as a not for profit so I did as you suggested and researched it by simply sending the link provided by the Care2 member to a California online business portal that verifies if the group is what they say they are. To say your a non-profit when you not a legal non-profit is wrong & this person got caught.

What happened is exactly as you said, I have been attacked by the individual and their friends, I even got a letter from the Care2 staff saying I had no right to "look into" any members outside business.

I strongly disagree with them and will continue to be non trusting as the attitude seems to be lies/scams are OK as long as you know the right people.

Feel free to check us out... www.cindurma.org/ E mail Glenn, our US co ordinator and member of Cherokee Nation, who just about financed everything out of his own pocket. I just try and help out on the Internet, and will endorse or link with any charitable org that proves themselves worthy..on the business side I am a member of "Scam Buster's" International..the danger today is not so called 419 'Nigerian Scams', they are so obvious, but more subtle cons and identity theft. Thanks for your remarks.

Would that you or anyone could only half-alert those who fall for an e-mail that a scrutinizing person would immediately recognize as questionable and if planning to proceed, to only do so at the greatest caution.

The internet is a laboratory where many of us have failed to be sufficiently cautious. And even those who try can be placed in an improper position without realizing due to search engines finding things we post in public places we perceived as private.

I found this site recently, and it is a fine site with much basis for its commercial viability due to its generally charitable and humanitarian thrust, searching genealogical info (the person's family name was unique enough for me to get few items including their name, first and last, when I was searching only their ancestors' surnames). They reasonably limit their post as most do here, but...

Now that I am here I am somewhat shocked to see a few too many leaving what appear to be home addresses with their site data. It appears under their name if you Google them. Placing home addresses with posts or the person's page, with that person's other biographical data AND many times photo, by the unwary should be discouraged by Care2 and may be so discouraged somewhere but I do not not see it.

Thus unchecked we are allowing the unwary to have not just those who are already here but those who do not even require to come here to find sufficient info to start some nefarious scheme, the spectrum of which such schemes is mighty broad and ever-expanding.

It is always wise to be cautious when dealing with stangers is it not? I have never been approached for money on Care2, and don't really believe I have to worry about such. I support people in a more direct manner, than to give to an organization which may promote issues that are against my ethics. Not only could you support things that harm your character, but you may in turn, harm unweary peoples who are being used as a diversion for some devious money scam. So yes, I do agree that we must be diligent when being approached not only on the internet, but also, every day at market checkouts and other public places. Know who you are donating to, what they represent, and how the money is being used. That is your responsiblity.

Thank you for this topic, I feel its an important message Cheif.

Thank each of your for your comments..I ask each of you to stay vigilant and when some phony or fake person raises their head and starts to solicit money for a bogus organization bring it to the attention of care2 members because in my opinion not to do so would mean it would be uncaring.. It is great to be charitable and give to worthy causes but please check out the causes very carefully..

Thanks again for your comments

Well, I knew it was 'out there' but not 'in here' I am not this way, so I do not understand a con man... I mean, the underlying person. Would rather deal face to face.. Thank you

Indeed there are, sadly not all of them ask for money, many just use C2C to build up their own egos while teaching falsehoods to those who know no better. I actually feel sorry for most of these people and pray for them.I pray for their victims as well, they are the ones truly being harmed.

New on Care2 I am just beginning to understand the concept of networking. I see both the power of networking and the dangers...especially on the computer where cyberspace feels artificially safe. I appreciate your advice.
