Though I am an adopted Mom, I believe in this, and you shall see a candle in my window, on Christmas Eve - to remind myself of the mothers of my two daughters.  My eldest daughter has been re-united with her first mom over the summer, through emails /phone calls and sweet wonderful packages.
Our twenty year old is in the process of searching for her birth mother -- with all our love and support

Seventh Annual Christmas Eve Candle Lighting

As the world lights candles in preparation to celebrate the birth of a child who changed the course of history on Christmas Eve, New England Firstmothers and over 800 members of the Sunflower Sisters will celebrate Christmas Eve by lighting a candle in memory of births which changed their own personal histories. This year will mark the 7th Annual Christmas Eve Candle Lighting for these women.

The New England Firstmothers' group and Sunflower Sisters, are groups of natural mothers from around the world, who have surrendered or lost a child to adoption and are now linked through cyber space, as well as through personal hardship. These women communicate through e-mail with each other, helping each other with this journey that has no road maps or directions.
The Sunflower group is divided into two separate lists; searching and reunited. Their status is determined by the status of their relationship with the child who was placed for adoption. These women offer one another emotional support as they endure the struggles associated with living as a natural mother - the forgotten member of the Adoption Triad.

On Christmas Eve this year, each of these women will light a candle at 6:00 PM and burn it until midnight, thus having candles lit around the world on Christmas Eve Night. The candle will remember the members who are searching for their child and light the way for the possible reunion. For those who are reunited, it will burn to strengthen the tie that was forged between the biological members of the Triad. And, for those who have been rejected by the fruit of their womb, it will offer hope for a change of heart and a better future.

The New England Firstmothers and Sunflower Sisters ask that all members of the community remember those in the community who are living a life with a part of them missing and offer a brief prayer for first mothers everywhere who endure the pain of a difficult decision. It is their hope that in this season of goodwill toward all that they may share in the joy of the season.

Please join these exceptional women in lighting up the world on Christmas Eve.

That's beautiful. My husband's aunt was forced to give up a child when she was 17. They were reunited about 8 years ago after the daughter went searching for her birthmother online. They only lived about 1.5 hours apart from each other most of the time!

I have a sister-in-law (my husband's sister), that just found her daughter after 17 years. What a glorious occassion that was for her and even for us. They are staying in touch now and hopefully she will be moving up with her birth mother next year. Good luck to all birth mothers trying to find their children.

To all those looking for a reunion with a lost child or birth-mother please give a thought to the birth-fathers who want to know their lost children.

yes, oh yes, one must not forget the birth father...
For finding all who touch, who love, who care about the 'child' is so important...

First, often the child searches for their first mom...and then the circle increases... to birth father, grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, half if not full siblings....
The circle continues..
of all those who love and care for the 'child'...
no matter their age...

For the child is like a pebble...dropped into the adoption pond... with each ripple out, each layer of love encircling the child....
helping to guide... So important are all who's lives have helped shape the path of the child...

thanks for reminding me Mags - of the importance of all in the adoption triad..
