So ... months ago, some friends and I started this bead exchange ... I think it was March or April ...

The idea is to put some beads in a box ... just a sampler of beads from your stash.  You send them on to a friend who picks out some of the beads she likes, puts some from her own bead stash in there, and then sends them off to the next friend in the circle.  And this goes on for as many friends/bead lovers until it circles back to the person who started it ... hopefully with a bunch of new and different beads that are fun to go though.

It's always fun to get stuff in snail mail, and it's doubly fun when you know it's stuff that you like, but you have no idea what any of it will be ...

(Off Topic:  The beautiful lampworked beads in the photo are called "Opal Glow" and I bought them from a bead artist who sells on Etsy ... they're gorgeous ... very "blingy" and a good size ... I can't wait to use them on something ... )

So ... anyway ... I got the box back a couple of weeks ago ...

It was about 50X bigger than when I sent it out ...

There was lots of stuff in there ... here's what I picked out: a handful of clear glass beads with turquoise, red, green, or dark blue cores ...

... a few clear recycled glass beads with large holes, several small cobalt blue lentil beads ...

... a sprinkle of delightful tiny lavenderish a/b finished stars and one that's a bit bigger, four clear "melon" beads with red cores, one oddly melon-coloured (sort of green and amber) melon bead ...

... four small oval aventurine beads (I might have put them in there myself ... I can't believe no one chose them, they're nice ... )

... two round glass beads that contain a turquoise blue and white swirl encased in crystal clear glass and two blue donut shaped beads that are a light blue and dark blue wavy patter encased in clear glass ... I love those ...

... a small aqua colored leaf, two pale turquoise beads - one is a flat square and the other is like a twisted rectangle ...

... two small glass heart pendants that are black with a sort of web pattern of goldstone glass, two flat glass hearts of millefiore in goldstone ...

... two small read beads with green, blue, and white raised dots, three metal (pewter? they have a nice weight) oval beads with an etched heart in the middle ... I really like those ...

... four black and white swirled beads that are like long rectangles ... I think they're an agate ... beautiful and although they're made of stone, they seem delicate ...

I selected two beige beads with what looks like Chinese writing and flowers ... I used them in this necklace ...

Gold mix...
You can see one towards the very right edge of the photo ... above the golden bumpy and below the shiny aurae glass donut ... see it?

Here's another photo of the necklace ...

Gold mix ... The "Chinese" beads are each resting on the top rim of the bowl ...

(Off Topic: The necklace incorporates a large yellow quartz bead, a couple of "animal print" beads that I etched, some beautiful yellow/gold lampworked bumpy beads, a yellow lampworked heart, a gorgeous large round patterened lampwork, some amber beads, agate beads, tiny swarovski bicones ... )

Gold mix ...
And then there were a BUNCH of round metal rondelles studded with rhinestones ... also square ones, which I'm not sure you can call rondelles ... you know ... since they're square ...

As luck would have it, those came in EXTREMELY handy since I was fixing a bracelet for Sasha, which had incorported beads like that, but some had been lost in the breakage incident ...

It was a bracelet on stretch thread made of multicolored eye beads and the rondelles ... I added some extra beads and used that memory wire stuff ... she really liked it ...

Sasha's bracelet redux ...
(Off Topic: Eye beads in all sorts of colors, some small lampworked beads with flowers, the rhinestone rondelles, opal glass faceted beads, pinkish freshwater pearls, clear glass a/b beads that look like ice (LOVE those!), a Hill Tribe silver heart shaped bead, and a silver cross with small pearls ...)

Sasha's bracelet redux ... Now I forgot what I was writing about ...

Oh, yah ... the bead box ...

So ... anyway ... that arrived a couple of weeks ago ... so much fun!

This was fun to read! I love how you describe the beads with such enthusiasm! The pieces you make are much nicer than anything I have seen, even in the hoity toity shops of Sedona, Arizona.

It\'s that time of year again! When seemingly normal folks don the tackiest knitwear ever conceived by Santa\'s little fashionista helpers.  Snowmen, Santa, teddy bears, showflakes, and over-the-top embroidery accompanied by excessive sequinry...
