Statistics Below Provided by Chong N. Kim-Founder of MASIE
Within the last decades sex trafficking has reached an alarming magnitude all over the world. It is estimated that there are up to 10 million women sexually trafficked across the globe, and that currently there are up to 27 million people (mostly women and children) who are in some form of servitude.
Sex trafficking and structured coercion by sexual predators and markets is a reality created by a long-standing pattern of global exploitation. It is a sick cycle by which women and children are forced to engage in these markets of slavery by forced survival or by coercion.
The MASIE
Organization
MASIE (Minorities & Survivors Improving Empowerment) is a minority led organization that was founded by a survivor of Human Trafficking in 2001. MASIE fights for the human rights and amnesty of trafficked and sexually exploited victims globally. All of MASIE’s staff is working voluntarily to address the root causes and dynamics of sexual trafficking and the mechanisms of coercion and enslavement. They do this through activism, constituency organizing and leadership development, outreach education and lobbying.
MASIE intends to intervene in a way that helps victims heal, connect, organize and transform their situations individually and collectively. Their strategy is about recognizing that law enforcement and “services to victims” can never eradicate a deep structural problem like sexual violence and domestic trafficking, global in scale. We need to essentially do both healing and movement building.
Vision Statement
Suggestion: Imagine victims of sexual trafficking and domestic violence organized together with their allies to promote an end to structural, familial and relational violence. MASIE did! As a result of their work they intend to see the following occur:
All victims of sexual trafficking and domestic violence will receive high quality services equitably.
Services to victims will be holistic and effective, with long-term support necessary for true healing in place for all.
Survivors will organize to address policy issues effectively and work together to close international, national and regional loopholes that allow trafficking to continue.
Survivors will connect their immediate issues of getting out of trafficked or violent situations to broader and deeper issues of addressing the structurally violent and exploitive pattern in society that generates sexual exploitation and trafficking.
As a result of their work, people will be able to experience, rather than just Imagine, a world without violence and exploitation. But in order for this to happen the volunteers of the MASIE organization need your help!
Helping Victims
of
Human Trafficking
Since the late spring of 2006, MASIE has expanded from 3 branches to currenly 5. They currently provide victim services to victims of Human Trafficking who are not afforded assistance through Government agencies. There are over 50,000 victims that are desperately looking for safety, security, medical care, housing, and crisis care; yet there are less than 5% of NGO’s (Non-Government Organizations) that provide direct services to victims. Of these 5%, only outpatient treatment and care is provided.
The MASIE organization is in need for your financial support so that they can continue providing ongoing direct services for victims who qualify.
Your contributions will help in the following vital ways: - To feed another child/victim - To provide victims with shelter - To provide victims with medical attention.
For every contribution that is sent to them, you will receive a reference letter for your tax purposes from MASIE.
Please assist them in their endeavors; your contribution is desperately needed. MASIE currently does not have an online donation account at this time, however they do accept checks or money orders made out to MASIE.
Please make your contributions to: MASIE P.O. Box 201622 Bloomington, MN 55420
Thank you for your much needed assistance.
Sincerely, a friend of MASIE, Joanna M. Doane
