Ten things you can do to promote the cause of peace
1. Vote Peace, not political party
2. Divest from companies that profit from war
3. Send a letter to your congressional representative and senators declaring your opposition to war
4. Write a letter to the editor declaring your opposition to war
5. Attend an anti-war protest
6. Talk to a pro-war friend and tell them nicely that you disagree with their opinion
7. Buy a book from an anti-war author
8. Join or help form an anti-war organization
9. Create a pro-peace web site
10. Go to YouTube and give a positive rating to pro-peace videos

Thanks much for the list. I also suggest... eating vegetarian and being a conscientious consumer, giving "the Peace Book" to anyone who is pro-war (http://www.thepeacecompany.com/store/prod_books_the_peace_book.php ), giving your kids and local libraries "The Big Book for Peace," looking into the following organizations: "Code Pink," and the "American Friends Service Committee," and eliminating violent television and music from your home (especially if you have young folk in the house). |

Love your list! I'm not american, like many here at Care2 and I am new to this community. I am slowly building my little space here, if you view my first photo album you will observe some of my peace related artwork. I also have a website that promotes peace through various means. As a Canadian, writing your congress might not be effective but I am hopeful Nancy Pelosi will continue to remember St. Francis's words as she goes about her tasks as Speaker of the House!
My pro-active Peace list begins with encouragement;
1) Believe Peace Is Possible!
2) If you are an artist of any medium create works dedicated to Peace.
3) Share those works where and when you are able. 4) Support and encourage others to do the same.
5)Teach your children to adopt peaceful solutions.
6)Live a peaceful life, for example is truly the best teacher.
7) Support organizations that promote peace.
8) Pray for peace, join in with http://worldpeace.org, an organization that joins people around the globe in thoughtful prayer.
9) If praying isn't for you; Meditate on Peace and learn to visualize what a peaceful world is like.
10) BE Peace, and in your peacefulness move forward to a peaceful world.

I am not for war, however I believe that until a job including war, (World War 1 & 2,Iraq, Pearl Harbor)has been settled, we must fight to defend our country. There are hundred of people in Iraq who want us all dead and will kill us without showing us any mercy. It is our job to support our nation and its people, including our troops. There is alot we can to to help them in their fight since we cannot go to Iraq ourselves. |

As the mother of four grown daughters, I'm feeling a bit maternalistic as I read the comments posted on the Peace Action discussion site. I find myself wanting to share the wake-up calls that have come my way over the past four decades. After demonstrating heartily against American involvement in the Vietnam conflict, my friends and I stood by as millions upon millions of people were slaughtered in Cambodia. Among our anti-war leaders, only Joan Baez made apology for not educating herself regarding the true stakes inherent in that Southeast Asian conflict. The genocide and rape of women in the regions of both Kosovo-Herzogovinia and (most recently) Sudan inform us of something far beyond any simplistic Pro-Peace stance. There has always been and most likely always will be evil designs of evil men. If we're to aim for world peace, those must first be taken into account, just as the throes of painful labor contractions must be taken into account when a young couple begins planning for a family. They can say 'don't be negative, be positive!' until the cows come home, but if the natural-childbirth classes aren't registered for and religiously attended, the positive attitudes won't cut it. In relation to the contractions of the world population at this point in history, I highly suggest following along with the web-blog entries of Dr. Thomas Barnett, www.thomaspmbarnett.com/weblog. One bit of data I found there and would never have expected is that the world has never been more at peace than it is at the present time. And it came as a further surprise to realize that America's military must be given credit for that. We do have great responsibilities on this planet, as Americans, but only through a broad understanding of history can we make right choices regarding those responsibilities. |

I was going to add 'eat vegetarian' - what Elspeth Hetrick said. We can support public transportation - does anybody know what that includes? Amtrak, the nation's train, facilities for bicycles and golf carts (which many Americans use to get around), traffic lights designed for alternative transportation.
In general, no more dependence on foreign oil. We also need a record of every violation of the Constitution, from illegal search and seizures to warrantless wiretaps.
We must be willing to accept the consequences of peace. When we withdraw from the illegal occupations in Asia we must deal with whatever harm comes our way.
I know this country can end its dependence on foreign oil. I know we can end the madness of the war machine. I realize some of us are looking for national leaders to guide us. The truth lies within ourselves. We each know how to end the war. |

Hello sortly after the last president election I went into a deep deprestion. I thought the country gave up it's sanity. I started signing my email.s with a saying I came up with: Feed the Poor, Not the War. A friend of mine made me a vainity plate saying that. I put it on my old ford truck other friends read it and agreed. Anouther friend suggested making bumber stickers using it and putting it on the American flag.I am Not against my country, just some of the choices made by george. If anybody wants to share that thought, I have good quilty bumber stickers to share with the world. They go for $2.50 and I will galdly pay for the shipping. And I Do donate 10% to feed the poor worldwide. This is only one way I try and wlak the talk. Anouther way is to ride my bike into work, donate the gas money saved to feed the starving. So many people starving in the world no time to fight.

There is one way to ensure that we can stop the Iraq and Iran wars. Register Republican for the Primary races and vote for Ron Paul. Candidtate Paul's camapaign is growing the fastest and he is 100% anti war.
Then we will force America to choose between an antiwar Democrat and an anti war Republican.
With all the paperless voting systems in our country it is the only way to ensure that we end these illegal acts our leaders have taken on these countries.
Please Register Republican for the Primaries and vote for Paul.
Clinton Surpasses Obama in Site Traffic Race, Paul Rockets to First
› › › ClickZ News
By Kate Kaye | June 27, 2007
Hillary Clinton overtook Barack Obama in May, John Edwards and Rudy Giuliani held steady and Ron Paul rocketed from fifth place to first. That's according to Hitwise data showing the ebb and flow of traffic to the official sites of the Democratic and Republican presidential primary candidates.
In a custom report created for ClickZ News, Hitwise measured traffic market share of the candidate sites. The measurement firm found traffic to Democratic candidate sites was top heavy, favoring Clinton's, Obama's and Edwards's sites. HillaryClinton.com garnered nearly a third of visits among Democratic candidate sites in May. BarackObama.com attracted almost 28 percent, and JohnEdwards.com drew 23 percent of visitors to Dem campaign sites last month.
Visits to Republican candidate sites were spread a bit more evenly among the sites tracked. RonPaul2008.com drew a 27 percent share of visitors to Republican candidate sites in May. MittRomney.com attracted almost 21 percent of visits last month, while JohnMccain.com brought in almost 13 percent.
Hitwise defines market share of visits within a site category as the percentage of traffic to a particular site based on its sample of 10 million U.S. Web users.

PRIORITIES
Pretend for a moment that you are listening to a booming voice that is heard by the entire world. The words are clear in every language.
“What are you people doing? Do you not know that Paradise is within your grasp? You have sent men to the moon. You have begun to explore the cosmos. You have conquered many of earth’s most devastating diseases. In a hundred years you have increased man’s life expectancy by more than a third; yet you engage in violence beyond description.
You stand by and watch as babies die from starvation. You abandon the homeless. You do nothing in the face of savage rivalries that permit your fellow men to commit genocide. What are you doing? Have you gone universally mad? You have corrupted and polluted the planet to a point that is almost irreversible. Your children are bereft of parental guidance. You have drowned morality in a sea of greed and materialism. You ignore wrongdoing in the name of political correctness. Your leaders must know that your fate lies in their collective hands, so you must demand that they put their priorities in proper order.
PEACE
The abolition of war and all violent encounters between nation states is the premier imperative. Nothing can be accomplished while you exhaust your lives and fortunes in hopeless and insane conflicts. Put down your arms, denounce international competition, worship the God of your choice, and obey the simple precept laid down by Jesus Christ more than 2000 years ago. Love one another. You might also want to consider the rules given to Moses , the Golden rule and the beatitudes set forth by Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount. Failure to do this makes additional priorities meaningless because a continuation of the present chaos will absolutely result in the complete destruction of your civilization.
Evil cannot be abolished, but you have it within your power to control it and minimize its dreadful consequences. Following your “great war”, you created an organization intended to address international disputes known as The United Nations. Due to the politics of self interest, this body, comprised of almost all nations has made itself virtually impotent. A revitalization of this group of sovereign nation states is mandatory. An overwhelming force consisting of the military establishments of every member must be created for the sole purpose of peace keeping and world disarmament. A token force sent into hostile areas is completely useless.
Each of your major powers, The United States, Russia, China and the European states should constitute the majority of this force under a single command with only one mission - total and complete world disarmament. Force would be applied only in those instances where rogue states refuse to disarm. Disputes between nations would be resolved by a world court comprised of impartial judges from states that are not in any way involved in the disputes. The key to all of this, of course, is the completion of an alliance between the major powers. In order to overcome the long standing distrust between these nations, it is necessary that each of these states simultaneously provide the personnel to supervise and accomplish the disarmament of the other so there would be no imbalance of power at any time during the process. Timing for the destruction of launching systems and weapons of mass destruction is critical. This enormous task must be accomplished in such a way that no one power will be placed in a position of superiority over the others at any time during the process.
The first objective for the united peacekeeping force should be the disarmament of all the middle eastern countries where terrorism originates in the form of religious fanaticism and the denial of human rights. The politically correct faction will scream in protest against this, and they will deny that religion is at the cornerstone of the current chaos, but all of the Islamic states are engaged in a kind of reverse crusade to impose their culture, beliefs and laws on the entire world. Given free reign this can only result in a never ending cycle of violence that will spell doom for all of mankind.
The disarmament process cannot be accomplished over night. It will take years to dispose of all the weaponry that has been created over the last decades; so it is essential that every nation, every human being dedicate themselves to the other priorities that replace war and international strife.
Starvation and poverty can and must be eradicated. Clean water and sanitation must be provided to the drought stricken nations of Africa and Asia. Health care should be a universal right and this will require the creation of many new and strategically placed institutions for medical education. The homeless and mentally deficient should not be permitted to roam the streets of your cities. Shelter, clothing and an adequate diet can be provided for them. The argument that they are able to provide for themselves because they have equal opportunity is specious. Some have been victims of catastrophic events. Others are simply incompetent or have fallen into the horrors of alcohol or drug addiction. They are your fellow men and are deserving of your help.
You must stop the pollution of your atmosphere, your oceans and your streams. One species after another is becoming extinct on your beautiful planet. Your glaciers are melting at an alarming rate. Your storms are becoming more intense, and you continue to populate and build in their destructive path. You continue to rely almost totally on fossil fuels as the source of your energy. Renewable non polluting sources are immediately available, and during the decade that will be required to disarm the world, the use of oil, coal and other carbon dioxide pollutants must be reduced by at least ten percent per year.
Within the past few days, you have witnessed a catastrophe in Minnesota that accentuates the need to repair and rebuild your entire infrastructure, including highways, bridges, water purification systems, electrical grids, high speed rail and other transportation systems.
Dissolution of the world military outside the peacekeeping force will be an enormous challenge. Careers in the armed forces for the millions who have pursued them will be abruptly ended, but these dedicated people from every sector of your planet can transform their efforts to work for peace and the restoration of sanity to the world. In their hearts, they should welcome the avoidance of maimed bodies and violent death.
All of the foregoing, you will say, is impossible; but listen carefully. You are hearing the voice of Gabriel, and I am speaking on behalf of my Master, the creator of all things. Obey my instructions or your children and grandchildren will perish with the rest of humanity, never to see another sunset on this magnificent planet.”
Obviously the foregoing message was not spoken from an Angel of God on high, but it contains truths of enormous proportions. Please pass this on to every thinking person you know. Perhaps it will become a seed that will grow into a grand scheme to save the world as we know it.

Thanks for the list, what a great one!
I'd like to add "Do not sign the 'Peace Process and Demobilization in Colombia' petition from Mercy Corps". Why, you may ask? Because one of the things the petition asks for is funds to begin removing coca as an option for Colombian farmers. Coca is not the problem, it's cocaine. Coca is a sacred plant revered by indigenous peoples of South America. They've used it for perhaps thousands of years. Coca is not an addictive drug like cocaine. Cocaine is a perversion, for lack of a better word, of coca.
Please see my blog or alert about this, and please do research on coca and South American peoples before supporting its eradication.
Coca is a part of their culture. By destroying coca you are destroying South American culture. |

I'dlike to add The buck to some extent stops with us all in this one.You are like a pebble thrown into a pool everything you do has some effect for the good or evil of your fellows when you are with them. Radiating out from you in increasing circles are the results of your actions as those already affected by those actions pass on the effect to others.
1 Start from where you are,Find the peace within yourself
2 Find ways of starting to have peace with your nieghbours-However destructive and irritating they are. Send them God's light-Pray for them
and or work at "conflict resolution"-learn how.
3 Find the good things in everyone person and focus on that when you see them
4 make yourself comfortable and happy . God did say to care for your nieghbour as yourself so that includes caring for yourself.
5 Learn what foods and other doings keep you calm
and try to adhere to them eg laughter and choclate can help
6 Learn some form of meditation and or contemplation-meditation stops the amigdiglia from doing nasty overactive things and brings your actions in general under more conscious control.
7 Have as much sex and hugs and even masturbation as is consonant with your conscience and condition(Riech wasn't all wrong)- Anyway these things reduce tension and do nice things to your hormones which help you love the human race
8 Smile and laugh as much as you can
9 Learn to walk away rapidly if someone is too much for you. And remember it takes considerably more heroism not to fight than to fight
10 Try prayer-of whatever sort with or without a group-preferably with one . One reason people turn to God is because it feels so good. Not in a goody two shoes sense iether
11 Above all Love everything including yourself
and accept no one is perfect including you |

Thanks for posting this, its great that some people focus on the positive. I agree with Chris M, we do need a 'positive mental attitude', not only because of the negative things going on but for our own personal happiness. If we are to achieve peace, then I think that it must start within each of us. If we can find peace with the world and everyone in it then we will create peace on the earth. |

Good ideas. I attended the 10/27 Peace Rally. Too bad it didn't get much coverage by the mainstream media & newspapers.

If you do not find the peace within yourself and work on that and forgiveness then all this is useless- The problem is largely ourselves each one of us doing that sets up a ripple effect which could genuinely cause world peace |

Thsis will not work unless you find your inner peace- The problem starts with us-Peace in anyone is like a ripple in the social fabric - being at peace
creates peace around one- and promotes social peace |

11. Learn the history of peace and war advocates like Nevil Chamberlain of Great Britain in 1939. Also learn the results of Nixon's Peace with Honor to the VietNamese after the Americans fled in disgrace. Learn about the diplomats and the peace negotiations between World War I winners and losers and the results in Germany in the 1930's. Hey guys Hitler was elected. And America had stuck its proverbial head in the sand and let the diplomats do all of the discussions on peace terms. All while the German people starved and voted for 1 man who promised their dignity returned and food with jobs. War ain't nice but slavery is worse. |

How about lobbying congress for a *big* war tax on the massive profits made by private corporations out of the (publicly funded) war. (To go back to public programs, like vets medical, education, and that "much too expensive" universal health care idea?) |

I support our troops - I do not support the decision to invade Iraq. I want our troops brought home now! We should not be the "world's policeman." We should bring our troops home from not only Irag, but other countries where they are stationed. If you want this to happen, this coming election is VERY important. Dr. Ron Paul, conservative Republican candidate for the US presidency wants to bring our troops home ASAP! If you want to learn more about this issue and others you can check it for yourself on his web site. Be proactive. Learn how all of the candidates feel on the issues - don't be DISTRACTED by the Media's "spin" on things - make up your own mind. And, don't be distracted by the charisma of the candidates & all of their promises. The ECONOMY of the US should be discussed in specific terms by all of the candidates, so far, with the exception of Ron Paul, the others are afraid to level with the Americans about the dire state of our economy! Wise up before the elections and get involved. Your future, the futre of your children and grandchildren are at stake! |
