Need help Paying VET bills??

[QUOTE]'willingwin wrote:
This was posted in a vet group I'm in and I wanted to make the information available to others.

Whenever you think your pet needs to see the vet but you think you can't afford to go, please take note of two things.

1. Part of the deal with pet ownership is providing medical care. Failing to provide it may actually constitute animal cruelty.
2. Instead of asking for medical advice on myspace, call your vet. It costs nothing to make a phone call. If it's after hours, call an emergency vet. Vets can help you figure out if your pet's problem is an emergency or not and if there is anything you can do at home to help your pet. Myspace people generally are not qualified to give you this kind of information.

With that in mind, here are some groups that can help you afford the vet bills:

American Animal Hospital Association
http://www.aahahelpingpets.org/home/
"Through the AAHA Helping Pets Fund, veterinary care is possible for sick or injured pets even if they have been abandoned or if their owner is experiencing financial hardship."

Angels 4 Animals
www.Angels4Animals.org
"Our services range from financial aid to complete treatment
to those pets and pet owners in need."

Care Credit
www.carecredit.com
A credit card company for health care, including veterinary care.
"With a comprehensive range of plan options, for
treatment or procedure fees from $1 to over $25,000, we offer a plan
and a low monthly payment to fit comfortably into almost every
budget."

Feline Veterinary Emergency Assistance (FVEAP)
http://www.fveap.org/sys-tmpl/door/
"Seniors, People with disabilities, People who
have lost their job, Good Samaritans who rescue a cat or kitten - any of these folks may need financial assistance to save a beloved companion."

The Feline Veterinary Emergency Assistance Program is a nonprofit 501
(c)(3) organization that provides financial assistance to cat and
kitten guardians who are unable to afford veterinary services to save
their companions when life-threatening illness or injury strikes.

God's Creatures Ministry
http://www.all-creatures.org/gcm/help-cf.html
"This fund helps pay for veterinarian bills for those who need help."

Help-A-Pet
http://www.help-a-pet.org/home.html
"Our efforts focus on serving the elderly, the disabled, and the
working poor."

IMOM
http://www.imom.org
"We are dedicated to insure that no
companion animal has to be euthanized simply because their caretaker
is financially challenged."

The Pet Fund
http://thepetfund.com/
"The Pet Fund is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit association that
provides financial assistance to owners of domestic animals who need
urgent veterinary care."

United Animal Nations
http://www.uan.org/lifeline/index.html
"The mission of LifeLine is to help homeless or recently rescued
animals suffering from life-threatening conditions that require
specific and immediate emergency veterinary care. We strive to serve
Good Samaritans and rescue groups who take in sick or injured
animals. In certain cases, LifeLine can also assist senior citizens
and low-income families pay for immediate emergency veterinary care."

UK Assistance with Veterinary Bills
http://www.petloversonline.co.uk/financial.htm
"Most of us can cope with the financial commitment involved in the
day to day care of our pets. However, how many of us come out in a
cold sweat when our pet is ill or injured and we know we have to take
it to the vet? Most of us are fortunate enough to be able to afford
it but, some of us who love our animals dearly cannot. Unfortunately
we do not have a PDSA or a RSPCA Centre within our area, but there
are a few charities who may be able to help."

Other Groups Who are Breed or Injury Specific:

Corgi Aid
http://www.corgiaid.org/

Dachshunds Needing IVDD surgery
http://members.rushmore.com/~dds/applyforhelp.htm

www.doberman911.org
It's for special needs and senior dobermans who need medical help. You can donate to help them, or have them put your dobie up there if you need help too!!

HandicappedPets.com
http://www.handicappedpets.com/Articles/help/
"From time to time, HandicappedPets.com recognizes a caretaker of
handicapped pets that need some special attention, and a little extra
help. There are those who are so selflessly dedicated to their animal
families that they give up a little more than they can afford."

I have a Boston Terrier that's 3 years old and he was born deaf. He started having seizures in April and so far we haven't been able to stop them. He has 4-10 a day every 3 weeks until they put him out to almost unconscious to stop the cycle. I'm a single Mom with 2 kids and can't afford the CFS spinal tap or the CT scan that the vet recommends. I've been paying $300-$600 every 3 weeks for my dog's care and I'm out of money and resources to pay the next cycle of seizures. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I don't want to have to put him to sleep. Thanks!

Hi Lisa,
Funny, I just read "Cat's Eyewitness" which takes
place in Afton, Virginia. Thank you for posting this most valuable info. At 57, I have found myself on workman's comp for the last 4 years. Until they cut my funding, end of case shut-down to force settlement, we were fine. This still didn't stop me from rescuing a 1yr old white german shepherd, who was to be put down because of a leg injury, the same day he was surrendered to the pound. I received Rama from the woman lifted himoff the gate he had his foot stuck in, and who bailed him from the pound, but had no place for him. I was much relived when I found your post. Thank you, Karen in El Segundo, Ca

I had no idea that there were so many organizations that could help with vet bills. It has been a dream of mine to establish a foundation such as these, so that no one ever had to surrender their beloved companion because they could not afford the veterinary bills. I think that one of the reasons pets wind up in shelters is because of people not being able to afford to take them animal to the vet in case of sickness or injury. This is just wonderful news that there are, in fact, already some organizations that can help. Just a note however about Care Credit, I received $500 in credit from them that I thought was going to be interest free for a period of time that would allow me to pay it back, but they gave me 30 days and when I didn't pay it back in 30 days, I'm now paying 23% on that $500. So, I would use that with caution.

Desperate financial straights. I'm a retired/disabled Fire Fighter from N J. Almost 4 years ago while visiting a no-kill shelter in Elmsford, NJ I came across a Dogue de Bordeaux in need of a home. Her name is Daisy. She had substantial medical issues at the time. Her prior owner was convinced to give her up vs putting her down and she wound up at the shelter. We, (I'm married and father of 3 daughters 9,12 & 14) fell in love with her on the spot. After considerable discussions with the shelter staff and with their offered assistance, we adopted her. After numerous vet visits and lots of loving care Daisy recovered from her most serious conditions at the time. The other issues we deal with on a daily basis with the assistance of the originating shelter providing all her meds (free) and a veterinary prescribed restricted diet since. Daisy is part of the family. On Sunday, Nov 22nd while playing with her sisters at a local soccer field, she sustained a catastrophic injury to her left knee. She is unable to walk (107 lbs). After an emergency room visit, and consultation with her Vet it was determined that she needed to see an orthopedic specialist (which we did Nov 5th). After a lengthy exam we got the bad news. Daisy pretty much destroyed her knee and is in need of major reconstructive surgery called a TTP. The initial estimate is $3700+ dollars. As a disabled FF living on a pension of around $26K year raising three daughters, paying a mortage and all that go with it I have accumulated massive credit card debt. Truth be told, I can't afford the surgery. But Daisy is one of my daughters. She can't do without the surgery nor is putting her down a consideration. She is scheduled for surgery Monday morning Nov 30th in Fairfield, NJ. I'm looking for any assistance offered or available. We are desperate and looking for help. What I can offer in return is that I am extremely handy in light construction can fix most anything from light plumbing & electrical to framing, rocking and much more. I have my own tools and transportation. I can give referrals upon request. Maybe we can work things out to mutual satisfaction. Please feel free to contact me: Henry 201-320-3669 (Cell)
