"During the Civil War, President Lincoln stated that those profiteering from defective weapons 'ought to have their devilish heads shot off."
With economists estimating that the final cost of the Iraq War will be nearly a trillion dollars it's unimaginable that:
  • troops were not provided proper body armor;
  • troops were denied existing anti-RPG protection  in lieu of a contract with Raytheon for technology that won't be available for another year;
  • there is evidence of war profiteering;
  • Congress blindly approves war budgets and acts like Pontius Pilate when it comes to fiscal oversight;
  • some troops are seeing their third tour in 60 months and their rotations are subject to change on a whim;
  • wounded troops return to an army hospital  where "signs of neglect are everywhere: mouse droppings, belly-up cockroaches, stained carpets, cheap mattresses";
  • the administration wants to escalate the troop count; and
  • the Congress is not discussing impeachment
I wonder what Lincoln would recommend for this lot?
