Once again, one of our leaders of the Brazilian Amazon faces death and torture. Our sister IVETE BASTOS, president of the biggest farmers’ union of the Amazon, in the municipality of Santarém in the State of Pará, has received numerous death threats and they’re getting worse: they would not kill her like the others, these threats say, with just a bullet. Rather, she’d be tortured to death.
Ivete has been at the forefront of the peaceful movement for land reform and justice for the traditional communities of the Amazon rainforest. We are gravely concerned about her safety. Please sign the petition here:
