Do you know anyone with advanced or metastatic breast cancer? If so, please forward this to them.
Yesterday, the FDA approved a new breast cancer treatment called Tykerb for patients with advanced or metastatic breast cancer that is HER2-positive.
This is the first targeted, once-daily oral treatment option for this patient population. It is used in combination with another cancer treatment, Xeloda, to treat breast cancer when other treatments have not succeeded.
Unlike other treatments, Tykerb can penetrate cells to block the functions of the HER2 protein. The HER2 protein is the agent that promotes cancer growth by sending signals.
