Here is living proof that it is possible to live via the energy from the sun for pretty much everything. This retired engineer put together a solar powered system that powers his car, golf cart, chain saw, tractor and home. If he can do this, all the rest of us can too.. 


What about plugging the electric grass mower into the golf cart? What about powering the electric barbecue off of the golf cart, or the electric car? It is also possible to do even more than he is doing, just by switching a home to a zero carbon fuel source such as wind, water, wave, geothermal, solar or hydrogen energy provider  in one of the many states that allow this.
