My definition on happiness is when you are free from negative feelings and baggage. Instead you are filled with contentment, fulfillment, compassion, kindness, love, gratitude, understanding, and appreciation. In this state of mind, your body simply feels calm, peaceful, relax and warm. You may feel like singing, humming, whistling, hopping, dancing, and smiling. You feel younger. You feel happy.
Based on my observation, there two basic ways to be happy. One is built on someone else's sorrow. The other is built on someone else's happiness. You had tough day at work and vented your frustration when you got home by kicking your dog when it failed to get out of your way in time. At that moment you released some of your negative energy, you felt better. Country waged war against another country to take revenge to feel better.
The best way to get lasting happiness, said Deepak, is to be happy and make others happy. I find this to be true and it works for me in practically all situations. Of course in any given situation, you may not be happy. But in the long run, if you keep practicing ways that promote positives and happiness, you will eventually prevail. I call this theLaw of Attractions - Love attracts love, hate attracts hate.
