A good friend of mine and a member of our Board of Directors at Essentials of Life, Joane Cooper, made a very interesting statement today when we spoke on the phone.  She said when asked where she goes to church, her reply is, "I AM at church!"  And she is absolutely correct!  We all are at church all the time!

This simple statement spoke volumes to me.  Where do you go to church?  My first thought is that I go to church in my heart!  Every time I feel love or compassion for someone else, I am worshiping God.  Every time I look at the world in awe, I am in church.  Every time I treat myself with respect, or someone else, or any creature, then, too, I am in church.  I am in church when I look at the good things in life!

Our bodies are the temple of God.  I am in church when I take care of myself.

When I walk out in nature, I can feel the presence of God in the air.  I am at church in the woods, in the fields, in the mountains and by the sea.

When I walk in the city it may be hard to recognize the presence of God, but if I look at the homeless woman huddled in the corner, then I know I've seen God's face in her eyes.  When I look back with love, I have offered the highest prayer that there is.  I am in church at that time.

I am in church when I eat.  Eat to glorify God.  I am in church when I speak.  Speak to glorify God.  I am in church when I do anything.  Do my daily experiences worship, nurture and respect the presence of God in my life?  Or do I speak with no gratitude, see with no mercy, and act is if nothing matters at all except material gain?  Is that how we act in church?

It doesn't matter where we go on Sunday...or Wednesday night...or Saturday night...or whenever it is that we typically worship in formalized church.  What matters is where we go in our own private church.  Where do we go in our heart?  Do we treat our bodies as the temple of God?  Do we treat our mind as a vessel for deeper meaning?  Do we look into our hearts to find the Love that is there for us all to share?  If we do, then we are in church all the time!

Church is a word that means many things.  One thing that comes to mind is the word, "sanctuary."  A sanctuary is a sacred place, long regarded as a safe haven of peace and rest, protected from the outside world.  This may be in a church, in a mosque or in a temple, but beyond all of that, I believe this place is within each of us.

Does it really matter where we go to church?  Does it matter if we're Catholic, Presbyterian, Jewish, Pagan, Baptist, Jehovah's Witness, Morman, Amish, Methodist, Buddhist, Muslim, Essene, Lutheran, Wicca, Seventh Day Adventists, Hari Krishna, Scientologists, Christian Science, Unity or Unitarian?  Does it really matter at all if we have love in our hearts?
"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God."  (1 John 4:7)
We don't get caught up in the argument about which church is "right" here at Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center.  We are a church of all religions and no religion.  We are a church in the sense of the word that we are a community of love, peace and life.  We are a church in that we worship the goodness of life together!  We worship the goodness of God...the goodness of Love...the presence of Good throughout all of Life, and how to more fully experience God's presence more fully in our day to day lives.  We are here to enrich your spiritual lives, not to take away what you already have.  Essentials of Life is a place for everyone to put aside our differences and celebrate what we have in common, which is Love, Goodness, Nature, Healing...this is what we call GOD!

So realize that you are in church all the time.  Treat yourself and others the best that you can.  Wear your church smile and talk your church talk.  Do your best, be your best, and give others the best that you can...just like you would if you were in church.

As to your place of worship, go where you feel the closest to God.  It's good to be with like-minded people.  It's good to be in a safe haven of rest and to give thanks with others for the many blessings of life.  Go to your own church, and please also feel free to come together with us, here at Essentials of Life.  Whether that is in person at one of our events, or here, in writing, for our weekly message at Genesis1.  Church is where there is love...and we are sending love to you now!

Essentials of Life Holistic Enrichment Center is a Universal Life Church.  We are learning Universal Truths about LIFE!  We are here to help you learn how to live more naturally well, in accordance with how you were created to be...perfect  in design...in the image and likeness of love.

We will be having regular services in Hartville soon...in The Little Church in the Barn!

These weekly messages are given in love.  If you'd like to contribute, please send a message to eolhec@aol.com.  We welcome contributions!  We are all here to share together in healing love.

For the most part, I have been writing these messages.  That comes with the job of being the founding minister, I guess.  At any rate, I enjoy it, and I hope you enjoy reading what I have to offer to you.  I hope in some way it enriches your life.

So with that being said, and the understanding that this is my gift to you, let me say that I realize I'm not always the most eloquent of writers, and my insights are only as profound as my mind or your mind thinks them to be.  But most of life's lessons are extremely simple, when you break it all down.  So keep that in mind when you're reading these lessons and thinking to yourself that you didn't learn anything new.  There's nothing new in the whole world!  Everything that matters has been here since the beginning of time.  Revisit simplicity in your mind as you read.  Become as a little child in your mind.  Things usually aren't much more complicated than that in the end.

I am in church.  Always.  That is the simple thought for today.  I am in church, and in fact I am a church, for my body is the temple of God.  All of Life is a temple of God.  Am I behaving my best?  With love and respect?  Towards God?  Towards myself?  Towards everyone else and everything under creation?  We are ALL members of the same church when you consider that we are all expressions of the very same God....the God of Life and of Love!

Remind yourself throughout the day, "I am in church all the time!"  Remember this when you eat...is it food fit for God?  Perfect and whole?  Remember this when you speak...are your words helpful and kind?  Remember this when you are called into service to help heal the world in some way...are you wiling to do your part?  Remember this when you close your eyes...are your last thoughts ones of surrender and gratitude for the joys and sorrows of the day gone by and are your first thoughts when you awaken of gratitude for a new day full of hope?  Realize God's presence in every moment of the day, and realize that you are in church.

Treat the temple of your body and mind like a sacred place, and treat everyone else like the an equal expression of God.  You will soon realize your entire life is a worship center of joy!  Be at church in each breath, each heartbeat, each thought.  You are living in the temple of God, as are we all!  God is living in and through each of us and all of life.  Remember this and give respect.  Church is happening now!
