It is heartbreaking to know that Lucy, the elephant, has been living
her life alone, in a small enclosure for 30 years. It seems humans
have proven themselves to be so arrogant that they don't even have the
common sense to share a modicum of compassion or even consider
the consequences of such a lonely existence in the first place. No
wonder this poor creature is depressed and lonely. In all of the past 30yrs,
you mean to tell me that a bell never went off in your head to realize
that this is morally and ethically wrong. We are the caretakers of
this planet, or supposed to be.
By the way, I have lived in both Cold Lake and Calgary, Alberta and
I am fully aware how hold your winters are, a major understatement really.
No wonder this has had a bad effect on Lucy - whose life should have
been lived in Africa.
You've done Lucy a grave injustice. Please right this wrong and follow
the Toronto Zoos actions by sending their elephants to a sanctuary
where hopefully they'll have a chance to experience some quality
of life. And can you even imagine the joy you will give Lucy just to
be with other elephants!
I truly hope to find out very soon that the right thing has been done
for Lucy and you've sent her to this sanctuary. A humbling Christmas
gift wouldn't you say?
