This is the second on our series on considering the Advent as something which happens inside each of us as we prepare for the birth of the awareness of our inner perfection, which can be equated to the Christ-Spirit in Christian tradition.  It is the realization of our perfect design, and the awareness that we were created in the image and likeness of God.  When we act through this Christ-Spirit within, this is our hope of glory.  Through acting through this awareness we are saved from the woes of the world, because we realize we are not of the world, but of God.  As such, we are heirs to the throne.

No matter what other meaning we do or do not put into Christmas, this message of hope relates to us all.  We have a Power within us that is capable of overcoming all things; designed in the likeness of the Power which brought about the entire Universe and holds it together.  This is a Power much greater than our human self.  This is the Ultimate Power working together to express Good throughout all.  When we realize this Power is likewise working for good in our own personal life, it's a humbling realization, indeed.  When we align our will with this Power which is always working to bring about good, then anything and everything can be and is accomplished for good.  This includes finances, health, relationships...all things good for everyone.

Last week we talked about Faith in regard to realizing this Power for Good in our Life, acting through us as Christ-Consciousness, or whatever name you prefer.  The observance of Advent is a tradition which began in the early centuries of Christianity, but it is an observance which can be practiced for all, because it is the observance of preparing ourselves to bring forth our Higher Selves.  This is inside of us all.

First we considered our faith, and how anything is possible if we believe that it is, and if we apply proper action to back it up.  This week we're going to consider how love prepares the way.

Love is the only way.  The ultimate commandment is to love God, self and others completely.  This is the only way we can achieve the conscious realization of our oneness with God, for the Truth of God is Love.
"He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." (1 John 4:8)
In order to love God we MUST love ourselves and each other!  God is Love, and if we wish to more fully experience our realization of God and emulate our higher purpose in life, expressing all that we're meant to be and acting as a channel for good in our own lives and the lives of others, then we must truly love!

How do we love everyone when we don't even like them?  Well, we could start by realizing that we are the same.  Realize that those who are uneasy to love are there to bring lessons to us which will hel us to grow.  Look into the eyes of the person for whom you feel disdain, and see that they're vulnerable, in need of a healing in this way or that.  No one is nasty by choice!  Mean and nasty people are simply hurt little children grown up, or otherwise lonely people who won't let goodness into their hearts.  They're in the most need of love and prayers of us all!  To shut the mean and nasty people out of our circle of love is to deny that they are worthy of love.  This is not our call to make.

Some people try to imagine what Jesus would do in a situation.  Would he cast the first stone?  Would he walk past a beggar thinking himself better than him?  Would he talk bad and gossip about other people?  Would he enjoy a full meal knowing his neighbor was hungry and offer him none?  I think we know the answers to questions like these.  If we wish to experience the birth of the Christ-Spirit within ourselves, we need to consider our willingness and effort devoted to love.

It's easy to love the people we love.  We enjoy their company and we're happy to spend time with them.  This is good.  But be sure you ARE spending time with them.  Sometimes it's easy to have the feeling of love, but still not so easy to take the time and the effort to express this feeling in a concrete way.  Just as faith without works is dead, love without expression is also quite useless and vain.  Love without action to back it up is simply a good feeling for us and not anything helpful to the other party involved.  Would we say we loved a baby but yet did not offer it food when it cried?

Life expresses itself in so many forms.  To love fully means to love all of life!  People, animals, all of creation...the flowers, the woods, the oceans, the rain, the stars, the prairies...all of it is ours to cherish and love.  The Ultimate Goal in all of Life is to express only Love!  When we express only Love, then we will manifest only Good in our Life.

To love God means to love the ways of God, which are the ways of mercy and love.  God's ways are healing.  God's ways are wise.  To love God means to honor the laws of nature and love.

Loving ourselves means taking care of ourselves.  Do we really take good care of ourselves?  Do we surround ourselves with positive people?  Do we act in positive ways which are good for our well-being?  Or are there ways we could improve?  Loving ourselves means treating ourselves with respect.  It means eating foods which are nourishing and healing, breathing clean air, drinking plenty of pure, clean water, getting plenty of exercise and plenty of rest.  Loving ourselves means allowing ourselves the enjoyment of laughter and the release that comes from our tears.  Loving ourselves means accepting ourselves with our short-comings, and acting in our best interest in striving to overcome those things which keep us from expressing our good.

We are meant to express the fullness of Life!  Giving birth to the Christ-Spirit within means giving birth to the best that's in us!

So love.  Love everyone and everything.  Do you love the animals?  Are there ways you could more fully express this love?  Are you a part of the suffering that they endure?  To take part in suffering is to limit your expression of Love, and this will limit your expression of God, or Good in your life.

Do you love homeless people?  Beggars?  Drug addicts? Thieves?  Rapists?  Murderers?  Where do you draw the line?  Do you love pedophiles?  Until you can separate the act or the illness from the individual and learn to love the seed of God implanted within them...until you can pray for their redemption and for forgiveness and compassion for them...until you can pray for their enlightenment, you will not be fully enlightened yourself.

You cannot attain what you are not willing to give.  To forgive others you must hold them and yourself in the Light.  You will see that we are all the same.  Some simply have lost their way and are in greater need of the Light.  This is why we shed it on them...surrounding them in the Light of Love.  (This does not mean that we should necessarily allow any one individual into our personal lives.  This could be dangerous for us to do, and in fact, we are well advised to associate with people who likewise emanate love.  However, we can still hold them in a place of love and forgiveness inside of our heart.)

Look into the eyes of those you pass on your way throughout this coming week.  Notice the loneliness there and the pain in so many eyes.  Give them a smile and send them a prayer of love.  It may be all the love that they get all week!  One smile and one loving prayer could make all the difference in the world to one lonely soul.  Go to the mall or the park and just look into the eyes of the passersby.

What about the girl with the funny hair, the fat bald guy, the smelly person, the woman who screams at her kids while they continue to run wild, the person who speaks with a lisp or the one with the rainbow hair?  What about the person from a different country?  What about someone who appears scary or stupid to us?  Can we send all people love?

And animals?  ALL animals?

We must give repentance for those we have knowingly or unknowingly hurt.  Then we must do something to give back if we, ourselves, are to heal.  We need to do something to help ease the suffering of others if our own suffering is to be healed.

Do something to give action to the love that you are discovering inside of you.  Go to a nursing home, a homeless shelter, "under the bridge".  Go to a neighbor's with a loaf of cranberry bread or in some other way reach out to SOMEONE in need.  There are so many in need.  It may have been you before, or it may be in the future.  It has been me before, I do know.

See whose driveway is in bad need of shoveling and then stop by and shovel it for them.  Drop off some food and/or paper plates to someone who has just had a death in their family or someone who has been busy helping a family member in need.  Dishes must seem endless at those times in life...help them out!  It's very easy to do.

Please look at ways to express love to animals, too.  They are desperately suffering in so many ways.

Please visit http://online.sfsu.edu/rone/Religion/religionanimals.htmlfor more spiritual insight on this.

Express only love and love will express itself throughout your life!

This is the true road to true Joy and Peace, as we will discuss in the next two weeks.

If you are lonely, seek not to be loved, but to love.  If you are in need of forgiveness; forgive.  Hold love in your heart for all of creation...the good things and the not so pleasant things in your life...realizing that all things work together for good to those who love God...God is Love.  Love LOVE.  Feel the Presence of Love within you and honor this presence, for this is the very essence of God.  This is the essence of everything GOOD!

To bring Love into expression is to give birth to the Christ.  Bring Love into manifestation in your life today!  Stop looking for love outside of yourself, and realize the Source of All Love is WITHIN.

Go hug someone...hug yourself!  Send out a note card or letter or give someone a call.  Send money into a charity or go volunteer.  (We accept volunteers and donations at Essentials of Life if you're looking for somewhere to give!)  Go look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself what it is that you need, and then do something nice for yourself.  (No, not a junk food treat, that's not nice!  Treat yourself with RESPECT!)

Love is easy to find if you believe.  That's why the first step is faith, as highlighted last week.  You have to believe you're deserving of love, and you have to believe in the goodness that's present in all...the presence of God.  This is the faith.  Then it is easy to love!  And when we send out love, love is attracted to us.

If it is a personal love you are looking for, let me tell you a love story now.  I was very lonely to find my right mate for a very long time and then a friend advised me to write down a list of what I was looking for.  This is what I did.  I wrote down specific traits I was looking for, such as someone kind, someone strong, someone spiritually minded and so many things.  It was a very long list!  I wasn't afraid to make it long, however, because I was writing down my ideal.  I did not want to place limits on God, so I even wrote down a few things that were a pretty tall order to fill.

Well, he came to my door, knocking and already in love with me through reading some of my works...or at least that's what he says!  He said that when he met me it all came together...just like he thought...because I was just perfect for him.  And here I was the one with the list!  He fulfills every item I wrote on that list in ways even beyond what I ever dreamed.

If you have faith in love and believe you deserve it, then it will come if you open yourself up to the idea.  (I still had to be convinced just a bit...I had been hurt in the past and it was not easy for me.)  Now, though, with each passing day, I am more and more amazed at the grace and goodness of God that I should have received my heart's desire!  The love which has been given to me has healed so many old hurts and pains, and it leaves those which remain so much easier for me to bear.  There is truly nothing more healing than Love.
1 Corinthians 13:1-13

King James Version (KJV)

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Remember, too, that charity begins at home.  Take time to play with your kids, listen to them, the same with your husband, your wife, your mom, your dad, your brother, your sister, your uncle, your aunt, your cousin, your grandparents...extend it on out to your neighbors, and from there on around the whole world, for we all are family, in Truth.  In extending our love, we are healed.  Remember to extend it to yourself, as well.  Sometimes that's the hardest to do, but it is every bit as important.  Be good to yourself and know you are worthy of love.

I am grateful for my mother and father's example of love, and for my husband, my children, and everyone else that has accepted me with all of my short-comings.  I am truly humbled by the Holy Presence of Love in my life!  I have been richly blessed with so many good friends.  Perhaps it's because I'm inclined to make friends with people on buses, on elevators, or just about anyone who passes by, in my mind if nowhere else.  I like to make friends with the animals, too.  I think this is the way to open the door to more love in your life.  Give love and it will fill up your whole entire life!  Don't give up.  Sometimes it may take time.  I spent many, many years crying myself to sleep.  I used to call Help Lines.  Then I went into training and worked on a Crisis Line helping others.  That is the way that Love works!  Don't give up...Love is ready to express through all that you are!  Love is in ADVENT-ure indeed!!
