People have different ideas as to the benefits of sports in the lives of people. I have always believed that sports is a great teacher for life lessons and growth that will stay with you through your life. If you apply these ideas to business and be determined, you will be a force to be reckoned with.
1. Planning is crucial In order to be successful, you need to know what you’re doing. You need to know where you want to go and how you plan to get there. In sports, having a strategy and play that maximizes all your resources gives you a greater chance of success. In basketball, you study not only your opponent, or in business, the competition and market, but asses yourself as well. Learn your strengths and weaknesses and use these key pieces of information to your advantage. Planning spells out your primary, secondary and even a tertiary option that will all lead you to the same goal. What is the required behavior, what will be your action plan and so on that will ensure your success and sustainability?
Having direction and being on the same page improves your strategies and methods eliminating possible risks and roadblocks that can hinder success.
2. Think positive Having a good attitude is what differentiates the winners from the losers. Being able to visualize and proceed with positivity creates an atmosphere that makes people more energized, creative and secure in what they are doing.
Visualization is a common strategy utilized in sports and organizations where you picture success. Before taking that winning shot or setting up for that penalty kick that could mean a win for you, imagine actually making that shot and kick. That positive energy goes a long way.
3. Work Hard If this means being the first in practice and last to leave when it’s over, do it. Determination is vital. No one is going to hand you success on a platter, you have to go and get it. Having a solid foundation and working out the kinks of the system to constantly improve is what defines an organization and makes it stronger. Instill the right values in yourself and your colleagues and you are unstoppable.
There are a number of lessons to be gained from sports; there are always surprises and teamwork and proper coordination can mean the different between success and failure. Similar to businesses, have a plan and know how to carry on to achieve your goal. Assess yourself and see what the things that you need are. Is it more man power or enhanced phone services? These are the questions you need to ask yourself that can help you in making your business endeavors more successful.
