Hot Stuff was a steer on a dairy farm who was unlucky enough to be born a male. He became my friend one summer when I lived on the same road as he did, and would take long afternoon walks with him. He liked to be talked to and he loved to be scratched on the nose. He was the first cow that I had ever met.
One day, my friend wasn't there when I walked past the field where I was accustomed to finding him, and I thought he'd been moved. Days later, I found out that he was dead, slaughtered for meat. I found out when his owner offered me some of Hot Stuff's meat. I was stunned. This happened 15 years ago, and I am still stunned.
I decided to give my first 100 butterfly points to help farm animals to honor Hot Stuff's memory, and the lessons that he taught me. Hot Stuff set me on the road to vegetarianism, and I won't forget him or his lessons.
