This is a cry for help for the Fruitatarian Butaan or Varanus Bitatawa Monitor Lizard!
This beautiful creature was just recently discovered in 2009, and a few years too late, as it is almost extinct already!
There are no other known species of Varanus that are fruitatarians, so this lizard is extremely rare!
It's native to the mountain ranges of the Philipines on an island called "Luzon".

The area it lives in has been heavily populated and drastically deforested.
If the hunting of this creature doesn't annhialate it, the complete decimation of its habitat and food sources surely will.

This creature is in extreme danger of becoming extinct!
Please help save it!
Individually, we are weak, but together we are strong!

I have started a group where we can learn more about this creature and figure out how to save it, together.
Please join me in this fight to save the Varanus Bitatawa Monitor Lizard.

For more resources about the legitamacy of this dire problem, here's a link to National Geographic's article about them;

Someone must speak for them.  I do not see a delegation for the four footed.  I see no seat for eagles.  We forget and we consider ourselves superior, but we are, after all, a mere part of the Creation. Oren Lyons, Onondaga
