Many people have contacted me about this problem, so here's a copy of a post made in my Help group about it. It's been going on for a long time, no sign of it being fixed by Care2. I guess that they don't think it's important enough to fix, although it's happening to everyone, and it makes navigating the site even slower than usual.
Every time your cursor passes over a profile avatar, a popup box appears, but unlike the usual avatar popup, this one is blank, and it doesn't go away, just keeps on trying to load. This is because you must have moved your cursor off that profile avatar before the box had finished loading - and they are loading slowly these days.
The quickest way to get rid of it is to find which avatar it is by following the popup trail, and put your cursor directly over that avatar, so that the box appears as normal. Once you do that, it will go away after a few seconds as they normally do
Or you can just refresh the page, but that takes a while and it's annoying to have to keep doing that.
That is a pop-up box that will give you a little bit more information about a person's profile without actually needing to go to their page and leave the one that you are on. Hopefully a useful feature, but if not, the best way to avoid it is to not hover your pointer over a profile image for any amount of time, or the box will load.
If you are on a slower connection, it may take the box a bit longer to load, but is probably still a good deal quicker than leaving the thread or page that you are on and having to open a new page or tab.
If you accidentally hit a profile page image and pop up doesn't load, mouse back to the profile picture and it should pop right up.

Hello Eric, thanks for commenting on my Share..
However, I think you did not read it very well - I know how to fix this, and explained that in my Share, as I have done previously in my help group. That is by looking for the avatar photo that is its source, and putting the mouse cursor directly over it so that it loads properly and then goes away when you move off..
I know that this comes from the avatar popup that has been around for ages, and I have no problem with that, but now the feature is not working properly, as you can see in my screenshot.
In my Share I also said that this is 'unlike the usual avatar popup', and that is why it is an annoyance and makes it frustrating for members to get around the site.
Even mousing near an avatar for the tiniest second triggers that half-loaded blank popup, and then it can only be got rid of in the way I explained.
Slow or fast connection, that blank box that I showed in my screenshot will never finish loading because the cursor is not over the avatar any more
This never used to happen - the popup used to be there, but you had to put your mouse cursor directly over the avatar for a little while in order to trigger it. Then it loaded - although often it did take a while - and went away after you moved your mouse elsewhere.
It was only after the last round or so of site 'fixes' that this half-loaded avatar popup started to appear all over the site.
I am sure that the engineers could restore this popup to the way it was before, if they were made aware of the problem. It is probably something to do with the time that has been set for the popup to appear and disappear, but I'm no engineer, so I can't analyse the cause or the fix.
And yes, it is a problem, judging by the annoyance it causes to me and to many other members who have written to me about it, or posted in my help group.

Thanks for the input, Zen. Just wanted to add to your post and give you the details that were missed.
If you do the get the pop-up, it IS the result of the the box not fully loading, nothing more. No need to refresh or do anything other than placing your arrow on the avatar and allowing it to fully load.
For example, in the screenshot above, move your mouse over to the avatar and it will load. This will get you on your way and eliminate the need for any extra, inconvenient steps.

Thanks Eric. I do know how to get the box to load fully, and therefore go away, just as I explained in my Share, and have explained quite often in my help group, as there have been a lot of complaints since this started to happen a while ago.
I only mentioned the long step of refreshing the page because some members seemed to have trouble with finding which avatar it was that was triggering the blank popup.
But as I said, this is a new development. It is as though this popup has become 'over-sensitive' to mouse movement.
So mousing anywhere even faintly near an avatar triggers the popup, which does not fully load simply because the mouse cursor was not over the avatar properly, nor was it meant to be. By that time the user is way over on the other end of the page, but that box just sits there.
Just experiment by mousing over a page of member profiles, and when you get near any of them, you'll get that box, and you'll then have to go back there to get it to load properly and only then will it close down. It makes browsing around Care2 pages very slow and frustrating.
Previously, in order to trigger the popup, you had to put your cursor over the avatar 'properly' and the popup was triggered quickly after that.
It did not suddenly appear if you just moused quickly past or near a profile - that has only happened since the last round of 'fixes'.

Ok, we can agree to disagree, I suppose :)
In the meantime, for anyone else reading this share, if you accidentally trigger the pop-up box(this is triggered by manually moving your mouse pointer over an avatar on the left hand side of the page) you can simply move your pointer back to the box that has not fully loaded.
Remember, If you do pull your pointer away from a fully loaded avatar pop-up, move the mouse pointer back to it and it will load in just a second.
For those interested, this was covered a recently in F&S at the following link:

I'm somewhat surprised that you have the time to comment here at length, saying exactly what I already said about how to solve this issue. It does seem rather a waste of time.
And yes, it is relatively recent that the popups did this, although you may not remember.
Ask around, other members will confirm that the profile popups never hung around like this before, nor were they triggered this easily
Thanks for the link to the thread in the F&S group.
Here are links to 3 threads in my help group where I have posted the solution to this problem.

Ok, thank you, I have re-read and just a bit of the info was misleading, such as you saying "it's been happening for a long time" followed by "it being relatively recent that it did this" and saying it was taking long for us to fix it??
What I am trying to clarify is that this is not a bug, so please do not broadcast a slow fix by Care2. Not the case.
Yes, we have had some bouts of latency and that will cause any item that needs to load to be slower than usual. It is well known that we are working on that part, which affects far more than a pop-up window.
This is not a bug and the "what's and how's" of this particular feature are listed above. If you get a white pop-up by not letting the box load, let it load.

Oh, and while I have your attention, could you please take a moment to reset my email address, which I assume has been soft-bouncing. I first reported it in December, and have written to you numerous times since then, without success.

Sorry, I had not seen your response when I posted above.
I guess what I said about the time frame is all relative.
My first post about it was 4 months ago, and it had already started some time before that, so you could say it's been going on for a long time. But it is indeed 'relatively' recent compared to how long the popups themselves have existed, that is what I meant.
I have been told by a number of people that they had put in help requests about this problem, and I think I put one in myself, I'll check. If something like this is bothering a lot of people on the site, has started out of the blue, one does expect that at some point it will be fixed, and that things will go back to 'normal'.
If Care2 choose not to call it a bug, then so be it. But it is most certainly not the way these popups were when they were first introduced, and it slows down browsing on every page.
The 'slow loading' that you speak of is actually 'non-loading'. That box I showed in my screenshot will never load as the mouse cursor has moved off the avatar. In the 'old days' before this started, that would mean that the box would quickly shut again without loading, now it does not.

if care2 continues to brush off every thing that is not working right hoping we will forget all about it and accept the diminishing comfort of trying to do things here, all the butterflies and thank you cards and added stars are not going to cover it up. many good members are leaving or being less active. the really good members don't need external rewards. they want to know the truth and they want to feel that care2 is listening. eric, i understand that you are in a difficult position. i don't want to fight with anyone...i want a good care2 that i can trust.
