"The 2nd of June 2000, a truck from a company contracted by Yanacocha (mining company) spilled 151 kilograms of mercury along 40 kilometres of road. Although the company says that a little less 1000 people they were intoxicated, residents say it's one higher number. The Peruvian Government through the Minister of women, in a servile attitude, took party for the mine and recommended people not seeking lawyers. Although initially the Government recommended the evacuation of Choropampa, the values of reference by DIGESA in collusion with Yanacocha were modified to minimize the risk levels and prevent an evacuation. Mercury is a byproduct of the production of gold."
"Choropampa. In case you never heard of it, please remember this name, it will be in history as annother example of what humans are capable of doing in order to make money. And another reason why governments shouldn’t allow private companies to get away with special benefits."
