Subject: IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING CITY COUNCIL MEETING THIS FRI. MARCH 22 and PREVENT THE ELIMINATION OF LAAS GRAVEYARD SHIFT!

---------- Forwarded message ----------
Hello Anne,
I hope you will forward or paraphrase this email to your email list as soon as you can.
Thank you for your email last night, but there is new information about attending tomorrow's (Friday) City Council meeting.
I spoke today with Councilman Zine's and Koretz' offices.

The most current information is this:
As you wrote, there will be a motion introduced at City Council tomorrow (Friday March 22nd).  However, it is NOT necessary for people to make the trip downtown to attend tomorrow.  The motion will be introduced but there will be no public hearing on the issue tomorrow.

The motion will then go to City Council's Personnel and Animal Welfare (PAW) Committee, where it will be heard on Tuesday April 2nd.  That is the meeting people should attend

Subject: ATTEND CITY COUNCIL MEETING THIS FRI. MARCH 22 and PREVENT THE ELIMINATION OF LAAS GRAVEYARD SHIFT!

Quick note about the candlelight vigil at East Valley Wednesday night.  There was a very good showing of people outraged enough about Barnette eliminating the graveyard shift that they took time to attend.  People were coming and going for the three hour vigil.  At any one time there were between 50 and 70 people there.  The dangers of Barnette's action is an issue on which everyone seems to agree.
Councilman Dennis Zine was there, announcing two important things:
    1.  Zine said he opposes Barnette's action and he will ask city council to act to postpone the elimination until there can be an investigation.  .
    2.  This Friday, Dennis Zine and Paul Koretz will introduce a city council motion to stop Barnette's decision and investigate:  It will be:
                Friday March 22, 2013
                10 am
City Council Chambers, Room 340, City Hall
                200 North Spring Street
                Los Angeles, CA
Please attend the city council meeting!  Show your opposition to Barnette's dangerous plan.  Public comment will be heard.  You can call your City Council office and request that they arrange parking for you at city hall.  Sometimes they can.  Otherwise, you can take the Metro.
Tell city council that Barnette's plan will endanger animals and public safety.  Money is obviously not the issue because Barnette's plan will increase costs to pay for new security guards, who will do no animal care work whatsoever.  There will be no animal care, no one protecting animals in case of fights, no taking in of animals, and if there is an earthquake or other emergency, 1,000 to 1,500 animals will be left without a single human soul to protect them.  Dangerous animals, newborn kittens and puppies, and injured animals will all have to remain on the streets.
Councilman Zine is running for City Controller.  He has frequently been the only city leader to take a difficult position to support the animals.  Zine was the only city leader who showed up for the animals at the candlelight vigil.   It is unfortunate the neither Garcetti nor Greuel, the two who want to be Mayor, showed up tonight.  Fortunately for the animals, Dennis Zine did and he is going to help.  We should support Zine in the election!
