I have been traveling cross-country, tent camping most of the way; and have been out of contact, for the most part now, about a month. Internet connectivity has been sketchy at best, but I have tried to keep up to some degree, particularly when it comes to signing petitions. I know that I have received numerous stars, e-cards and page comments from many of you while I've been out of touch and I just wanted to take this opportunity to try and reach as many of you as I can to say thanks.
I am back now and hope to be back into the swing of things soon. I had a great trip, but am happy to be home. My husband and I have decided to move to the northwest, which was one of the reasons for our trip, and so I'm going to be pretty busy getting my house ready to go on the market. We'd like to get it sold so we can move as soon as possible. So, although I'm back, I may still not be "as back" as I'd like to be, but will still try and sign and share as many petitions as I can.
One thing that I did find through my travels, staying in and visiting many National Parks across the country, is that animals are not as welcome as one might think. This is the first time we've traveled with a dog and it was surprising to me just how difficult it was. You would think that a well-behaved, small dog would be welcome in most national parks. It wasn't that she wasn't welcome, but if you wanted to actually follow any of the trails or do any hiking, dogs are prohibited. We were told in Joshua Tree National Park that there are so many pets there now that have gotten lost and separated from their owners that they have formed a pack and that's the reason dogs aren't allowed on the trails. And while that may be true, I still have a problem with it. After I get a chance to do a little research, I plan to start my first petition to try and get this changed if I can. I will post it on Care2 and hope that I can get support on this from many of you. I was horrified at the number of times I was told to just leave my dog in the car and was told this by people who should know better.
Again, thanks to all of you who have sent cards, comments and stars.
