ObamaCare, Health Care Reform and The Affordable Care Act

We have all heard of ObamaCare, but what is ObamaCare?

Obama Care, Obama's Health Care Reform, is the unofficial name for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The ObamaCare bill was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. The bill enacts reforms to provide affordable health insurance to 44 million uninsured Americans and to reduce the growth in health care spending. Like "HillaryCare" in the 90's or "RomneyCare", "ObamaCare" is a simple name for a complex issue. Get more Obamacare Facts on Obama's health care reform.

ObamaCare Facts was created by two guys sick of trying to dig through talking points to find out what ObamaCare acctually did. We are stricltly interested in presenting the facts on Obama's health care reform. We don't have any funding or agenda. Please help us to support health care reform by spreading the facts on ObamaCare - Support ObamaCareFacts.com.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

The first phase of Obama's health care reform began in 2009 with the Affordable Health Care for America Act. This was followed by The Patient Protection Act, which culminated into the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act 2010, or for short "The Affordable Care Act". After going through several changes, the Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010.
The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act

Another, less-discussed aspect of "ObamaCare" are the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 and the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act, which were signed into law along with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and are officially part of the new healthcare law.
ObamaCare: Health Care Reform in America

Since ObamaCare was upheld in the supreme court and Barack Obama was sworn into office for a second term, ObamaCare health care reform is now the law of the land (albeit with some major changes made in the supreme court ruling). Many reforms have already gone into effect and many more will roll out over the next decade.

Millions are already receiving benefits of this law--like parents being able to keep their children covered to an older age and receiving premium refunds if the insurance company overcharged.

I expect that 2 years from now this new health care plan will have a different conversation about how it has brought more affordable health care to millions, and made it more reasonable for others.

If people are informed, there are only two reasons to want to repeal this plan - if you are a Republican who still hates Obama and all he does or if you own an insurance company. The plan is not perfect, no, but it is far, far better than what we've had...

The GOP conveniently forgets that the Constitution if "For the People By The People". Health Care and Education is a right in the USA (at least it should be). Everyone says that Money and Greed are the culprits, I think it is selfishness of individuals that think only of themselves.

As a Canadian who ENJOYS universal health care, I can only say "stick with Obamacare!". It is not perfect. That is physically impossible because 1) it was devised by people who are inherently imperfect; and 2) no two people have exactly the same needs; 3) it isn't universal health care. Having said that, universal health care is not perfect either, but it does not bankrupt you.

Obamacare is a great first step towards universal care. I have heard many ask why Obama didn't go universal right from the beginning, but he couldn't because universal healthcare is so anathema to the American self reliance meme. If you think about the Republicanus/Teabaggers trying to repeal Obamacare 40 times, think what they'd do with universal care!

But look at the broader picture, 30 million more people will have healthcare that didn't have it before; costs will be lower generally. That is something to celebrate!

For now - learn all that you can and be ready to use the plan to your best benefit. Educate yourself, ignorance is far more expensive.

Personally, I can't wait until this plan is fully implemented. And then, I suspect, most of the Republicans will find reasons that the *rest* of the parts of the plan they claimed not to like aren't so bad after all...

Much as they did concerning the requirement for keeping children on their parents' insurance, as I recall.

This unfortunately is insurance industry written and sponsored legislation that is NOT the universal, single payer health care that most progressives want for Americans(or that citizens of advanced nations enjoy). But, that being said, this is a small step in the right direction. We will get much closer to economic justice, social progress, and environmental sanity when the people actually have a party that, unlike the dominant corporate-sponsored parties, has a progressive platform; puts people ahead of corporate interests; and isn't for sale to the highest corporate bidders.

Oh, boy. You people are going to be sooo screwed. Obamacare is going to do several things, and here are a couple of them. Insurance costs will go up. Companies w/plans will likely drop them for a cheaper alternative, leaving employees searching for their own high cost insurance. Employees will be let go by companies tofall under the 50 employee limit. Employee hours will be curtailed to avoid providing health care to them. People will have less money to spend on essentials because of health care costs. There are some initial benefits, and this is to suck you in to thinking this Obamacare is soo wonderful. If you don't have health care now, you may never get it. If your premiums are "X", multiply that by 3 and expect fewer services. Oh, this is just the beginning. Can't wait for the fallout on this POS. If fully implement, it will bankrupt the country, and the last Depression will look like a cake walk. Sooorrrryyyy. You should always be careful of what you ask for.

Why are people so far behind when it comes to healthcare. Obamacare is good for the nation, and I hope Edward is wrong. They should follow the European model of healthcare; get everybody insured.

Why are people so far behind? There are so many rumors and so much lousy information that many have long since just throw up their hands in surrender. This article can be a tool and the one I posted a few days can also be used as tool, like it or not this is the law of the land and it is cutting insurance rates for those sighing up.
