So many times, shelters mistakenly believe that people will not want to take home a black cat, a senior animal, or a new baby. But there are many of us adopters out there who adore black animals, elderly pets, and babies. There is no reason to euthanize them.
Many bottle-babies need 24-hour care ( I fed many bottle babies and loved every minute) but the rewards are deeply satisfying. But many end up in body bags. Imagine euthanizing a baby cat or dog in the dawn of life. Senior dogs and cats are some of the sweetest and best behaved pets you can adopt, and may have many years left. Buy pet insurance to help you with vet bills if necessary to care for them. But many seniors end up in body bags too. We humans hate the thought of being abandoned because we get old. So why are we doing this very thing to our furry children?
Speak up to your shelter. Tell them to stop these practices and give everyone a fair shake to be adopted. 'As a society, we are judged by the way we treat our animals", a wise person once said. Our pets are one of the only creatures on the face of the earth who can teach us how to truly LOVE one another UNCONDITIONALLY. So why do we punish them for this by giving them up and killing them? Because people don't yet know how to return the unconditional love shown to them by their pets. But this is no excuse because IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN.
