Subject: Lena - Innocent Victim
Calling all Animal Angels. Please forgive me for reaching out yet again . . . but Lena needs our help.  Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

Lena used to live at the end of a chain, inside a fenced yard. I would see her everyday as I left work. I would stop sometimes, when the house residents were away (since I had appealed to them to treat her differently and was told to leave them alone), and give her some food and attention. She wiggled and wagged her tail to beat the band-grateful for any crumb of kindness. At some point I didn't see her anymore, and wondered what had happened to her. A few days ago, on my way home from work, I saw an emaciated, lame dog, hobbling in a traffic lane on Hardy. I couldn't stop my car, but couldn't stop thinking about her, either. A couple of days later, this last Thursday, I saw the same, sad, skeleton of a dog, standing on three legs, in front of the house where she used to be chained. I knew right then that those creeps had released her to fend for herself on the streets. I stopped and gave her a big bowl of food. She was shaking the entire time - from pain or fear or both - but she never took her face out of the bowl. The next day, Friday, she was waiting for me, in a safe zone where I keep fresh water and a bit of food for the myriad of strays that wander that area. She ate three cans of food and wanted more! She hobbled after me as I put out the fresh water/food that evening. I couldn't leave her. I named her Lena, put her in my car and drove to the vet off 1960 that stays open until 10:00 PM. Along with a drastically deteriorated overall condition, she is anaemic and fighting a skin infection. Miraculously Lena doesn't have mange or heart worms! X-rays will determine what happened to her leg. She was probably hit by a car and her leg is in some stage of "healing". She is now on antibiotics, and medications for anaemia and pain. She will have to stay at the vet until she is fever free and can be vaccinated. Lena is demure, forgiving, willing, quiet and very, very affectionate. So desperate, so deserving of a kind heart and hand.

If anyone is willing to help with Lena's vet bill, or willing to foster or adopt, please contact me (info below), and I will get back to you with details. (The vet clinic accepts credit card contributions over the phone.) Please post/share with your friends. Lena is the 11th dog I have rescued from this area in a year. All have been adopted but two, Angus and Emma, who are still in foster care, looking for their forever homes (inquiries welcome). Any help is gratefully appreciated. Thanks so much.
