Dear Member of Parliament, dear Sir, Madam:
I am writing to you concerning the dire situation with the stray animal treatment in Bosnia Herzegovina.
Often it is mentioned that this is a matter for the consulate of Bosnia Herzegovina, who I have emailed along with a lot of other people.
My concern is that if EU funding is being abused, and so many stories are coming out on social network sites from people living in Bosnia Herzegovina as well as Romania who are posting quite graphic witness- photographs of heinous animal abuse in this country, then my question is: why should tax payers' money be promoting a regime which has no intention of upholding our standards of animal welfare and who seek to become members of the EU in the near future?
Can you raise this issue in the parliament or at least comment as to how this situation appears to be ongoing?
Also: spay and neutering programs are not sufficiently applied and the budget for the dog shelters are not used to obtain the intended targets.
On December 5th 2013, the BiH Parliament will vote on amendments to their Animal Welfare Act.
If these amendments are accepted and implemented, it will have significantly negative consequences for the abandoned animals in this country, providing easy ways out to catching the animals and inhumane 'euthanasia' afterwards, which means very inhumane killing, or starvation, of healthy strays - even those who have already been spayed and neutered!
So this will mean a huge waste of EU money, combined with horrific animal suffering in a country which thinks it can become a EU member without showing any respect at all for the EU Animal Welfare Laws???
I look forward to your reply,
