Los bosques nativos de Argentina peligran cada vez más. Su defensa ya es prioridad en distintas provincias. Hay lugares que tienen una tasa de deforestación que triplica el promedio mundial.
La explotación sin limites e irracional de nuestras tierras, la contaminación de los suelos y el agua por los agrotóxicos, la expulsión de los campesinos y pequeños productores de sus campos y sus culturas, la desaparición de cientos de especies de flora y fauna (diversidad biológica) son todas materias problemáticas en los que los habitantes de la provincia tenemos el deber y el derecho a participar. Por ejemplo, los pueblos indígenas del Chaco (Toba – Qom, Wichí y Mocoví, presentaron a través de distintas organizaciones una Acción Judicial de Amparo Colectivo en nombre propio y de los habitantes de la provincia, solicitando la Emergencia Ambiental en la Provincia del Chaco, alarmados por la escala y las consecuencias de la depredación ambiental.
Los bosques nativos de la región norte y centro de la Argentina son en este momento los más afectados, y nada parece cambiar esta tendencia. Sólo en un sector de la provincia de Salta, se detectó que la tasa anual de deforestación es tres veces superior al promedio mundial.
El problema se repite en distintas provincias, y a nivel nacional. Según un flamante informe oficial realizado por la Secretaría de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sustentable de la Nación y el Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (INTA), que fue publicado por los medios nacionales, Argentina ha perdido el 70 por ciento de sus bosques nativos. "Teníamos 105 millones de hectáreas de bosques. Hoy nos quedan, apenas, 33 millones. Es claro que no hay más tiempo que perder", señala la información publicada por Clarín, que advierte que "los culpables se cuentan con los dedos de una mano: la tala indiscriminada, los incendios y, sobre todo, la ferocidad de las topadoras decididas a sumar más y más hectáreas para el cultivo y el pastoreo"
Los bosques nativos, además de constituir un patrimonio forestal originario, tienen una diferencia fundamental con la flora implantada: son propietarios de una biodiversidad vegetal y animal valiosísimas en términos genéticos, económicos y ambientales. Mejoran el régimen de humedad, contribuyen al asentamiento del suelo y constituyen barreras geográficas fundamentales para prevenir la erosión hídrica y eólica y las inundaciones. El uso de las masas forestales y los suelos como botín de guerra, con un manejo absolutamente utilitario y sin ningún tipo de planificación, ha puesto en peligro de extinción a los bosques nativos de todo el país, sin tener en cuesta los costos ambientales y sociales y aquella diversidad biológica y cultural que nunca más se podrá recuperar.
