I am from New Zealand and belong to a chat site here - my problem is so many people are for nuclear power without any researching or evidence as to its safety etc PLEASE all Care2 members if you could leave me a message with any valid research sites from professionals other than greenpeace (as the people here call them The Greenies - so they aren't interested in the evidence provided there) any personal experiences - I need as many facts/figures covering all aspects of a Nuclear plant world wide - accidents current especially ones that were malfunction of the plant not human error.  I feel so strongly about this and the views of some people scares me - I hope you guys can help me out with this matter as all information I can gather I will provide in case the government here tries to go ahead with this ludicrious idea.  I thank you all in advance and wish you all Peace, Love and Harmony

I live in the state of Ohio in the United States. Just a couple hours from me in Piketon Ohio they are planning to use a facility that has already caused much contamination in the area with nuclear and non nuclear toxic waste.

Do not let them destroy your country the way we are destroying ours. There is money to be made building and operating those plants and people that believe what they supporters say about nuclear plants need to remember the people trying to sell the public on them have an interest in it happening and money blinds people.

The waste will ALWAYS be dangerous.

Solar, wind, etc, etc, etc are the way to go.

This quote:

"nuclear power is not “clean and green.” She writes: “large amounts of traditional fossil fuels [and the carbon they emit] are required to mine and refine the uranium needed to run nuclear power reactors, to construct the massive concrete reactor buildings, and to transport and store the toxic radioactive waste created by the nuclear process”

Is from an article that can be found here:

I'll try to get you more, but can't right now.

Just remember to document and organize your information.

Start a website. I can help, email me.

Find others and organize.

And never NEVER give up. One trick they always use is they say something has been put on hold, and they wait for the people fighting against it to walk away and they proceed.

Also, they many times do not follow laws and rules about the number of public meetings and procedure, keep that in mind.

Videotape all meetings with any officials.

Make copies of everything in case something gets lost or damaged.

Get a list of and contact all media, environmental groups, church groups or anything else that might band together with you but if this gets big, don't let too many people try to run the show, just have a reliable core of people so it doesn't get bogged down and without structure and focus.

Here are a variety of articles from the Environmental Defense, and Grist e-mag websites.

We had a serious meltdown at a Nuke plant in Pennslyvania in the 70's. I lived just over 100 miles away, and had just moved to AZ right after it happened. About 6 months later we drove back to Pa. It was sunny, until we got to the Three Mile Island area, where the plant was. The area was gray and dismal. After we passed through the area, it was sunny again. That always stuck with me.
