There has never been a more important time to join WakeUpWalMart.com, the movement to change Wal-Mart and build a better America.

A shocking new report just revealed that Wal-Mart’s health care spending per employee has actually gone down, and the number of Wal-Mart workers without company health care has risen to a whopping 775,000 workers or 57% of the company.  The “Wal-Mart Health Care Crisis” cost American taxpayers nearly $1.4 billion in 2005 with a projected cost over the next five years of $9.1 billion.

Wal-Mart’s alarmingly bad health care numbers prove more than ever how important it is to build public pressure to change this corporation.   We need your help now.

Please join me and over 183,000 supporters all across America by becoming a part of the WakeUpWalMart.com movement:

http://www.wakeupwalmart.com/signup/

Wal-Mart is America’s largest employer, with 1.3 million employees and over $11 billion in profit. Yet, Wal-Mart pays poverty level wages, leaves 775,000 of its workers without company health care, faces the largest gender discrimination lawsuit in the country affecting 2 million female workers, shuts down small businesses and helps ship our jobs overseas.

The fight to change Wal-Mart is a fight for what kind of America we want to live in. In our America, people come first. Multi-billion dollar corporations shouldn’t be able to hide behind their special interest lobbyists and billion dollar ad campaigns.

Wal-Mart must answer to the American people.

That is why we are building the largest grassroots campaign to change a corporation in history. By changing Wal-Mart, we improve people’s lives, help our community and build a better America.

Please join me today and tell Wal-Mart to change.

http://www.wakeupwalmart.com/signup/

We have the power to change Wal-Mart, but it starts with you.

"That is why we are building the largest grassroots campaign to change a corporation in history."

Great, somehow people get Democracy and Corporate Property mixed up.

Wal-Mart will ignore you. They owe you nothing.

"Multi-billion dollar corporations shouldn’t be able to hide behind their special interest lobbyists and billion dollar ad campaigns."

Why not? They have the money, they have the power base, they have a capitalist system to work within.

The fight to change Wal-Mart has nothing to do with what kind of America you live in. We're capitalists, and it should stay that way. You have the right to work for what you have, and have the right for equal opportunity. Equal opportunity, however, does not mean everyone takes advantage of that equal opportunity.

Are these figures concerning Wal-Mart's alleged lack-luster health care track record taking into account all of the minors who work for Wal-Mart and are covered under their parents' health insurance?

How about all the college students who use Wal-Mart as a stepping stone to bigger better things, and are covered by a university health care plan like myself?

Why does everyone hate "The Man"? "The Man" got there because he unhorsed the former "The Man" and took his place. Want to stick it to "The Man"? Then be "THE MAN"!

Rebuttal to Stuart: March 8, 2006.

Stuart, as you say democracy and corporate structure are unrelated, as a corollary, too many people forget that there is nothing about capitalism in the constitution, however in an aspiring democracy it remains our right to try to influence our institutions to behave in a more righeous (?Christian) manner. We are not capitalists, we are Americans, you are a capitalist, Wal Mart is a capitalist institution, a political philosophy I do not believe Christ would have counteninced, as He was the antithesis of being the "MAN".

I wasn't talking about what Wal Mart owes me, I don't and wouldn't work for Wal Mart, I would just as some one who has already paid more taxes than you likely ever will, would prefer my tax money not be used to pay the health care of workers for a company which is the 8th largest in the world. "Capitalism" is NOT a Christian philosophy--no matter what you have been taught since your 'conversion'. And, basically you admit "they have the money, they have the power"...since when is a democracy supposed to support corporate power. Mussolini called that FASCISM. I hope that you try to understand this is a health issue, and when you get out in the real world, we will see how much you have to pay to cover WalMart's healthcare "plans"..it is not equal. Never was. Never will be. And "the man"? I am a woman. It is International Woman's Day today. I have no desire to be "the man"..an archaic expression, at best. But, I will keep your age and experience in mind. Thank you, Stuart.

Penny,
Thanks for posting this (yes, I signed and sent it on to other friends). Friend Stuart is missing the boat on this one. "The Man" is "The Man" because he has "The Money". Hooray for Capitalism!

Well it's all our faults. If you don't buy the product, the company can not exist. So. We all lose. No logos! Go-to:

Walmart buys products made by people that are paid almost nothing.
Walmart causes most of the family owned businesses locally to be put out of business.
I don't shop there, but the least the company can do is pay for decent insurance for their employees.
