I have always been a strong supporter of right-to- know food labeling laws. I like the idea of companies disclosing that they test on animals. Personally, it is easier for me to trust an authentic vegetarian or health-conscious company to reveal its standards than to force a company with little to no standards to be open about itself. I am delighted that there is an updated list of companies that do test on animals, and I will keep this list handy. On the other hand, it does remind me that I, and perhaps others, are really not purists. When I saw Raid on the list, my gut reaction was, "Duh, yeah!" Would I want Raid to test its products on ants and cockroaches? Of course. The difference is that, in my humble opinion, ants and cockroaches are not exploited, abused, factory-farmed, etc. They are often an unsanitary nuisance who breed and cause problems. I have been a very strong vegan for many years, much purer so-to-speak than the typical vegetarian. I am probably like many other vegans, with strong love for the planet and animals, with a strong sense of health and environmental consciousness, but certainly not a purist 100 percent. What are your thoughts?
