I am contacting you about the imminent legalization of wolf hunting in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming ... the states that host the majority of wolves in Yellowstone and the American West. We intend to fight for the survival of the wolves -- in court -- and need your immediate support to stop this slaughter.
As you may already know, Bush administration officials are planning to wrongly remove the wolf in Yellowstone and the northern Rockies from the endangered species list, eliminating federal protections for this vulnerable animal. With a population of only 1,500 in the northern Rockies, there are still not enough wolves to ensure the future of this species.
Just days ago, the Bush administration adopted a new rule that creates a loophole for the protection of wolves in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, giving these states the green light to move forward with plans to legalize the hunting of these majestic animals.
Earthjustice has filed suit in federal court to stop this travesty from happening. We also plan to work to ensure that the wolf remains on the endangered species list under the federal protective measures that have allowed this animal to return from the brink of extinction.
Our legal effort to keep these wolves on the endangered species list is the last line of defense for these animals. If we fail, nearly 80% of the wolves in these three states could be killed, a huge setback to years of hard work restoring them to their natural habitat. You and I can't allow such a tragedy to happen.
The Pickens Plan will do
it, but we need your
