As a student his patience and willingness to help others enabled him to successfully tutor those whom others chose not to work with. Professor Drees stated in her letter of reference that, "As a student in my classes he(Richard Lewis) has always exhibited a willingness to help other students and truly operates as a member of the learning community. He has been an asset to the class" "He has also made improvements to lab operations, for example, designing Apple scripts to purge the preference files that were causing crashes" As the schools board of trustees I believe you are aware that Richard Lewis instructed 135 students, averaging 50 students per semester, thus making him the top tutor. The student have expressed gratitude and appreciation for the help they have received from Mr. Lewis as their tutor, as stated by a publications design student, "without the dedicated, intense, and patient help I received from Richard Lewis, I would not have been as successful as I was this semester in my course work." The fact that Richard Lewis has been forced to resign due to a hostile work environment is not only a great loss for Mr. Lewis, but a great loss to the many students who valued his devotion and assistance in there successful scholastic progress. It is a huge discredit to The Community College of Baltimore that the factors that led to resignation of Richard Lewis include the assertion of his rights to be paid for work rendered and the reasonable request for accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) these accommodations, had they been granted, would not have cost the school or taxpayers anything. It is my opinion that this is discrimination against a disabled person, especially when the school itself states the following in regard to their commitment to services and accommodations for employees with disabilities. "The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) is committed to full compliance with all laws regarding equal employment opportunity for faculty and staff with disabilities. CCBC supervisors, employees, the Office of Institutional Equity, and the Counseling Centers play an important role in ensuring that reasonable and appropriate services and accommodations are provided to employees in a timely and effective manner." Please view this petition of obtaining 2000 signatures. If you have not already signed, please view it, I hope you'll be someone who stands up for disability rights and sign this important petition Thank you.

Those with Disabilities can Contribute to the Community! Reinstate Richard Lewis at CCBC!

Those with disabilities not only contribute but in many instances surpass what their co-workers do at work and in their communities. They deserve the same rights, the same respect and the same appreciation that everyone does.

People with disabilitys are the most caring people I know! I have two children one 31 and the other 28 yes my 28 can do many things , he has a heart of gold and cant do enough for anyone he meets! but my 31 year old she is depended on me for everything, and thats ok! its my life and God chose me to fill it , and I will and have. So I am so for anyone with disabilitys to be as equal as anyone out there with out someone useing them! hurting them! or mentally destroying them! cause people are crule! I have lived a life of meeting people that are.

Take a look at Title 42 Section 1983 of the Federal Code. See if it could help Richard. Also Title 42 Section 1985 and Section 1986.

Is there any reason that Richard does not Tutor as an independant? Higher pay,... and no boss.

That is more a suggestion then a question.

Richard,... look up Title 42, Section 1983, 1985, and 1986 of the Federal Code. These are seldom used Civil Rights Laws to protect your rights as an individual from actions of a 'Public' or 'Governing' Agency. The College being public and the Board being the Governing agency,... and the violation being equal Opportunity,... you could be compensated (1983), put the Board Members in Jail (1985) right along with any attorney that refuses to help you (1986).

Curious why you do not Tutor as an independent. Start your own Tutoring business. Higher pay,... and choose your own hours and location.

If you would like to discuss this further,... send me a Network Message and let's talk.
