Alan Keyes believes that "our future is not in the hands of our leaders — it is in our hands."

Since our Founders gave us a constitutional "republic" — a representative democracy in which the people have the ultimate power — ours is a system that is truly "of the people, by the people, and for the people," as Lincoln memorably said.

It may sometimes appear otherwise, due to domination of our system by powerful elites and special interests, but our government is nonetheless a reflection of the will of the people, in the final analysis.

We might say that "we get the leaders we deserve." We certainly get the leaders we are willing to tolerate — thinking we have no other choice.

With these facts in mind, Alan frequently points out that the people themselves, at the grassroots, can steer our country in whatever direction they choose — provided they have the will do the so, sufficient strength in numbers, and faith in God's providence, as did our forebears.

He also frequently ends his speeches by emphasizing that grassroots Americans have a duty under God to fight for the future of our nation and to be worthy of His intervention, if our country is to survive in liberty.

For these kinds of reasons, Alan Keyes does not believe that any political leader — no matter how capable or intelligent — can do much to turn our country around unless he is supported by a grassroots movement that will produce the kind of moral and political revival needed to preserve our nation.

As a national conservative leader, he believes — quite literally — that the way to save our country is this:

It's not about imposing things from the top down. It's really about building them up from the bottom." (June 25, 1995, San Luis Obispo, California)

This simple maxim accurately describes the grassroots vision of Alan Keyes, the vision he has shown repeatedly over the years as he has worked — and sacrificed — to educate, inspire, motivate, and lead grassroots Americans.

Such "bottom up" leadership and example requires enough moral conservatives to stand with Alan and show the same kind of leadership, courage, and initiative he himself displays, if we are to bring about a peaceful grassroots revolution that will indeed take back our country.

It is this very sort of grassroots movement that we seek to generate in support of Alan Keyes in the 2008 presidential election.
