The important things to look for are regenerative braking (the electric motor supplies much of the braking force and recharges the batteries as it does so) and a power management system that uses the electric motor more than the gasoline engine. Some hybrid vehicles have EPA city driving mileage ratings higher than highway driving ratings. That is ideally what you are looking for if you are going to be doing stop-and-go driving.
