Charles "Charlie" Steen made a difference, not only to his family and the small town of Moab, Utah, but to the world!  In 1955 my uncle discovered the largest vein of Uranium in the North American continent.  He was born in Texas and his heart was as big as his state!  He was a loving and very giving man.  My mom was his only sister and he was her only brother.
When Charlie hit the Big One, he sent for his mom, Roselie and our family to come and live in Moab so we could all be close.
No matter how much money he had, you couldn't tell it by looking at him or talking to him.  He was just a regular person.  But very intelligent and loved people.
Uncle Charles was Utah
Uncle Charles fell victim to Alzheimer's disease and passed away on New Year's Day 2006.  He was 86 years old.
The other sad thing is, no one told my Mom that her brother had passed away until about 9 days ago.  There was a ceremony held by my youngest cousin, Mark, at the Mi Vida (My Life) mine where Uncle Charles' and his wife, my Aunt M.L.'s ashes were scattered, some time in March.
This was all kept from my Mom, and the local and national news until everything was said and done!
My Mom loved my uncle so much, and to be treated the way she was treated is not right!
Uncle Charles will be missed by everyone of our family!  We loved him very much!
