As the annual Canadian seal hunt reaches its third day, sadly, the death toll continues to grow. Our ProtectSeals team spent most of yesterday witnessing and documenting the slaughter of thousands of defenseless baby seals, sending the message that we’re (still) not going anywhere.

According to a new rule, all sealers are required to follow a 3 step killing process, yet our ProtectSeals team did not see a single sealer even acknowledge the rule. Instead, our team saw baby seals clubbed, shot, impaled with metal hooks and dragged across the ice in the most inhumane and cruel ways imaginable. Many of the sealers didn’t even bother to check if the seals were unconscious before stabbing them with their hooks.

This brutal slaughter of baby seals needs to end, and we are calling on the Canadian Government to take immediate action. The HSUS and HSI supports implementing a sealing industry buyout which would save the lives of thousands of baby seals (as well as the lives of those who participate).
