Blog: Care2’s metamorphosis

This year is Care2’s 10th anniversary!

It’s been quite a journey as we’ve grown from a small environmental portal into the world’s largest information and action site for people who care to make a difference in their lives and the world.

Thank you!  I feel such gratitude to be a part of so many passionate, caring people’s lives. We may be the ones developing the Care2 platform, but it’s you, our members, who are making the incredible impact on the world.

To better reflect our mission of supporting everyone making a difference, and to help connect with even more people around the world, we’ll be updating our logo and website design.   While we love our frog, he doesn’t exactly represent the breadth of topics Care2 stands for – from human rights, to personal health and wellness, women’s rights, children’s welfare, animal welfare and the environment.

For a sneak preview of our new logo
click here.  I love it, as I think it builds on our existing imagery in a deeply symbolic way. (I can say that because I didn’t come up with it )  And even though Froggie was my baby, I do think it’s time to move forward as we expand our reach and deepen our impact.

For those members who have been with us for years, we realize that change can be hard.  Our commitment to you is that we will make things better, easier to find, and an all around more pleasant experience.   Our website’s design has grown fairly “organically” over the years, but that’s created challenges with navigation not to mention clear messaging as to what we’re all about.

As we develop the new website design we’ll be posting the pages to keep you informed and ask for your feedback.

It’s an exciting time and we look forward to sharing it with all of you.

The new logo is terrific! This site is my home on the web. Having been here since 1999, I have seen it grow and grown right along. Through the blessing of Care2, I have been able to learn so much, to teach, to expand my world. To cry, laugh out loud, curse and praise and yell, "YES! We did it!"
Many of my dearest real life friends and even the man I love were all people I met here in this wonderful place. People who share a common thread in the web of life.
THANK YOU for following your dream and helping so many others participate in it and make it their own.
Peace & Bright Blessings,
Lauren

I like the direction you are taking, but admitI am intellectually challenged (need to use help to work out how to use the new e-mail server)
I have converted many of my friends in Australia to care2, some use as their home-page.

"We, the individual citizens and consumers who live in democratic nations, hold all the power and the potential for change."
---and I have the technology to make it happen---but nobody will listen to me and how it can happen! ---check it out at www.TrailerRoom.com ---my concept using that technology can create untold wealth

I can't believe it's been that long. Good for you!

I love the butterfly because to me it symbolizes transformation, an evolution of self and that's exactly what your site encourages. Keep up the good work.

Peacefully,

Lee W.

Having been a care2 user since 1999 or was it 2000, years regardless I'm going to miss the frog logo. The new logo is very beautiful and the butterfly is such a symbol for change & effect. I like it too (least froggy will be around in smilies etc hopefully).

I have only been a Care2 member for 2 years, and a direct supporter of Care2 1 year. Happy 10th! Where have you been all your life? New logo is great, since butterflies are mostly what I have most of.

I love Froggy. However, change is an absolute constant in this universe, so I can adapt. Working with the numerous large activist organizations, directly..., I had a friend email me to sign a petition here one day, last year. I came to sign it..., and I never left.
I realized this wonderful site produced many good petitions and news stories that were important to motivate positive change in many areas of this world. Thank you, for all you do. Much Love and Peace...Namaste, Dar

I think Froggy needs to at least sit on the C of Care2! Are you going to eliminate all the other cool little animals too? They make me smile everyday and in this world that is sorely needed!

I have been a faithful "clicker" for many years. Although I have invited loads of people to join, I get very depressed about the lack of concern most of my peers display. I WILL however keep doing my clicking and my recycling and voicing my concerns where ever and whenever I can. My only thought on the direction of the Care2 site is that sometimes I feel a lack of 'Internationalism' (?)
Do keep up the good work and I LOVE the new logo.
Butterflies are my favourites.

While the frog has become so familiar, the new logo with butterflies is terrific. Thank you for offering a site where everyone can make a difference worldwide for everything.

I will miss the frog, but I think the butterfly is classic. Thank you so much for inspiring so many people to make a difference in this world.

Hi Randy

Froggy.... I'll miss him. I'll grab a few of the old logos to down load, store on a disk for a keepsake.

I like the new logo it's nice [but kinda reminds me of MSN -- the butterfly but Care2's is much nicer looking].

I'm partial to frogs and Froggy - I'll pout awhile about it but I'll live over it. ;)

Can you update Froggy a bit and keep him apart of Care2? Everyone knows Froggy - even those not associated with Care2 knows Froggy.

FROGGY!!! I'll miss Froggy!

The new logo is nice but looks like MSN!! MSN uses the Butterfly!!

Butterflies aren't the only creatures that mean Change/Metamorphisis the frog does too!!

If meditation were all it took to achieve Enlightenment, frogs would be Buddhas.

Like the butterfly, the frog is a symbol of reincarnation. Its form goes through a radical transformation: from frothy spawn containing myriad eggs, to the tadpole breathing by means of gills and sprouting legs, which finally in losing its tail becomes the adult air-breathing hopper.

The Sanskrit word, mandukya means frog. The Hindu scripture, Mandukya Upanishad, says that the three letters that comprise the chief mantra AUM (usually written OM in languages using the Latin alphabet) each signify a state of consciousness: A = waking, U = dreaming, and M = dreamless sleep.

Animal symbolism of the frog speaks of:

* Luck
* Purity
* Rebirth
* Renewal
* Fertility
* Healing
* Metamorphosis
* Transitions
* Dreaming
* Opportunity
* Intermediary

Please don't loose Froggy!!

Congratulations, Randy... Ten years,
growing... and thriving.

THANK YOU, RANDY.... Your vision(s) has/have made our beautiful world a better place.

I have met many interesting and eclectic people here, learned new things, exchanged ideas, etc.
etc.

I love the new logo and all that butterflies
represent, yet still love the original logo, too.
Perhaps there's a way to blend old and new??

Regardless... Thanks for spearheading this
amazing, influential site.

WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE EVERY DAY !!!
