We're just under 2 weeks out from the premiere of "The Testosterone Testimonials: The Measure of a Man." If you haven't called the Center to get in your reservations, now is the time (505-988-1951).
To refresh your memory: Tickets are $50. Any woman who brings 3 paying men with her will be admitted free! And the first 20 Veterans who call in will also be admitted free! The performance will be followed by a post-performance celebration at Vanessie's Restaurant. If you'd like to attend both the performance and celebration, tickets are $150.
This is a fundraiser for the Santa Fe Rape Crisis & Trauma Treatment Center. The purpose of this being a fundraiser is to ensure that our 12 community-based educational programs continue to reach as many people in our diverse communities as possible. Secondly, it also ensures that all of our services remain free to those requiring them. Nothing is more dispiriting than to come to an agency when in dire emotional and physical distress and then be presented with a bill for services rendered. Our job is to help people through their time of need without adding to their duress.
Tell everyone you know about it. It's going to be a truly exceptional program. Here are the men who will be presenting monologues they've written themselves:
Albert Angelety Cooper Lee Bombardier George Cappannelli Nik Cesere Robert Gonzales Senator John Grubesic Ray Lopez Rabbi Ben Morrow Abdullah Muharram Rev. Richard Murphy William Siegal Benny Shendo Raoul Trujillo Robert Valencia Aric Wheeler
Hearing about each man's perspective of what it has been like growing up male in America is going to be extraordinarily enlightening, informative, entertaining, and inspirational. Our group includes men age 19 to 80 and from diverse backgrounds. We also have the talents of Alan Tafoya who has composed an original song for this event. The Agalu African drummers will be performing and the men of the Jicarilla Dance Group will end the show on a high note!
The purpose of The Testimonials is to bring the "Men's Movement" out of the woods and classrooms by positioning it on the public stage; create an ongoing dialogue that dissolves social barriers, gender stereotyping, cultural myths and class stratification as promulgated for, to, and about men by both genders; and open the door for men to contribute to creating safety, health, and healing in interpersonal relationships throughout society.
You don't want to miss this! So, call 505-988-1981 and get in your reservations. This will be one night you won't forget for a long time!
See you there.
