Do not waste your precious time by signing petitions without proper targets
A target says where petitions will be sent to, once it has enough signs. That could be an organisation,an embassy,a government,a mayor etc. A petition without a proper target is definitely worthless. Do not waste your precious time by reading and/or signing petitions like this. People creating petitions should inform themselves about this, before starting one. In case you receive petitions like this from others, please inform them as well, Take a look at the targets of these petitions, and than ask yourself where these petitions are supposed to be sent to.
Do not sign them!!!!And do not send them on to others, they are a clear example of petitions being useless to sign:
100,000 to Save the Orangutans!
Target:Raise awareness of cruelties to orangutans???

Some of the petitions I have seen lately are useless. They are poorly thought out, poorly written and addressed to no specific organization. There is no plan of presenting the petition once it has or may have reached its objective signature goals. There is no target. There is no objective.
I would like to see, in the subject, the title of the petition so I know and can see what it is. It simply says "Action Alert from Joe Blow". I have to open each one, each letter to find out what the petition is. Sometimes, it is a petition I have already signed, thus I have wasted my time. The person who has sent me the petition has also wasted her/his time as well.
The idea of a petition is worthwhile endeavour but only if the petition is properly done and with an objective, a target, a presentation.

Kudos to you, Trudi - I raised this subject someyears ago but it was about time someone did it again - especially since the introduction of the horrendous 'ACTION ALERT' feature - the most vilified and loathed feature care2 has ever implemented! :-)))laugh or :-(((( cry???

Way to go Trudi
Not to mention they are hurting the good petitions. They're over shadowing them and causing people to resent petitions:(
Thank you Thank you Trudi.

Way to go Trudi. Great minds think alike. I myself have commented on this about petitions in the last couple of days and then all of a sudden I see your's, talking about the ssme thing! Great! No one needs to waste their precious time with frivolous or stupid or worthless petitions.

Fact remains that Care2 invented this sending on and on action alert system. And I am afraid they are not planning to change it.

Thanks, and yes! I completely agree! I think a lot of people just don't know how to write petitions. There are a few groups on Care2 which can help!
Also...Action Alerts...What a horrible system that is! No clue from the subject line, just someone else's idea of what I should sign. I wish there was a way to turn it off so they wouldn't crowd up my box! It makes it hard to get to the mail that is really important for me to see! Not that petitions are not important, but I really prefer to just go to the petition site and pick out my own to sign, unless there's something someone reeeeeeeeeeeeeally wants me to see. Then it should have a subject line.
We're all here because we want to help make the world a little better in this way or that, so I think it's important we make our time count. Ill-written petitions and Action Alerts take up toooo much of people's time. Speaking for myself, it makes it hard for me to get through my mail to see if anyone wrote to me asking for help concerning their health. That's why I'm here...to spread the word about natural health and to help people learn, as well as to help people with health challenges they may be facing, but I can't do it if I can't even get through my mail!

Ironic that this should be posted, because I awoke today to find 4 undeliverable emails in my personal inbox. They were all generated from the same Care2 cause. (Saving the forests in the south.) This makes me wary of signing ANYTHING in the future! I should add that my FULL NAME & COMPLETE ADDRESS were included as a signature.

Thank you for noticing this!
I have been getting a petition for saving the polar bears and at the same time I had read an article on yahoo. It said that the polar bears were on the endangered species list now.
Not that I don’t care about polar bears or any living creature for that matter.
I have tried to see if it belonged to an organization or a person who is trying to bring attention to a cause, but most of the time it doesn’t give the information you need to know. I’ve deleted these emails and the next thing I know they are back in my inbox sometimes with the more urgent need to sign, like a spammer!
When I first came to this site (a few months back) I had wondered about whether they were authentic or not or if someone was just taking a survey.

Like my friend Jim below me I relfect the same response. So many of my friends forward petitions to me and because this subject is important to them and no doubt myself I always open the message. However, I don't always sign the petition because it is poorly written and or has no TARGET.
Any petition supported by care2 needs to have it's target right up front so all can understand the complete purpose. Thank you Trudi

I agree with this. I am often spending more time opening all of these action alerts only to find that I have already signed. Since I only have internet at my office, my time is limited.
Petitions are supposed to have an objective and serve a specific purpose. They should be properly thought out. If done right, these I gladly sign.

I figured this out along time ago..
So many wanting to make a petition so badly.>Trying to help they see that it goes to a dead end.
I got an email few months ago That states petions by online sites are not legal, And will not go before congress. It stated that congress will not recognize petitions that have no valid names, Nor any that do not have all the ersons info.. So more than we know of Petitions we are pushing for, May not reach Congress to be voted on..
But Also this petition about petitions is also a OXymoron... No offense.. It does help people see your point.
