The Rabies Challenge Fund Charitable Trust has solicited donations from dog lovers who've been assured that their money will help reduce the number of rabies vaccines given to dogs. However, despite the fact that the Fund uses a happy, healthy dog as its mascot, the sinister reality is that the $1.25 million donated to the Fund will be used to house, experiment on, and eventually kill at least 70 dogs over a 7-year period.
 
Not surprisingly, the Fund has gone to great lengths not to disclose details of its impending study. It has been confirmed that the Fund purchased puppies and dogs from a laboratory supplier and plans to confine them at an unnamed research facility for their entire lives. Many of these dogs will die in an excruciating fit of convulsions, while others will become disoriented, suffer para lysis of the face and throat, and eventually die from respiratory arrest.
 
We trust you will understand why we find such treatment unconscionable. Given its budget and the fact that these studies are purely elective, we respectfully submit that the Rabies Challenge Fund has the resources - and the obligation - to develop a humane, non-animal method that won't cost numerous dogs their well-being and ultimately, their lives.
