It truly is a honor being a Gold Star Mother, knowing that your child was strong and brave enough to stand up and answer the call of our County. While the military life is not for everyone it is everything to many and these Heroes deserve our total respect as they VOLUNTEER to risk their lives daily for our freedom. I am proud that my beautiful son had the heart and confidence to be able to offer his life for our way of life. Many people ask me how I can be strong after losing such a large part of my heart when my son was Killed in Action on 7/17/06.... all I can say is , " How can I not be strong when my son proved his strength daily ? How can I dishonor him with weakness ?? " There is no way I would ever  shame his memory. He has earned the right to be remembered only for  his loyality, bravery and commitment to his Country. My son had a good life, full of love, great friends and battle buddies, many happy times, lots of adventures and plenty of laughter. He may have only been 26, but those few years were packed full of accomplishments and happy times. Every holiday is hard and painful because of his absence but I will continue to attend every military event I am invited to so that his name and sacrifice will be remembered. The 2nd anniversary of his loss will be soon, I will be in North Carolina, where he is buried next to his beloved Ft. Bragg, visiting him and placing flowers there. I will cry many, many tears for this brave and mighty warrior, but I will also tell him how very proud I am of him, just as I did when he was alive. My Hero, My Son....SSG. Michael A. Dickinson II.....Some Gave All, All Gave Some......
