I have a 1998 (November build) Mazda 323 Astina Shades 4 cyl 1.8 Litre sedan with 110,000 kms on the clock. I am experiencing a "whirring" noise that can be heard starting at around 40 km/hr which gets progressively louder with increased speed. Dissengaging the transmission by putting it into neutral (manual transmission) makes no difference. I had a mechanic check it over and he ruled out brakes, tires, wheel bearings, gear oil and cv joints. He suggested to get a second opinion as he thinks it might be the transmission. If anyone has had this issue and found the cause I would be most grateful for their input.
thnx
