This year, 20 billion pounds of dead cows will be fed to American farm animals -These animals, in turn, will be slaughtered and eaten by American consumers

Experts agree that England's epidemic of Mad Cow Disease occurred as a result of feeding infected dead animals back to cows being raised for human food - The same practice has occurred in America, although new FDA regulations prohibit feeding cows their mothers and sisters

The infectious agent responsible for mad cow disease is a
Prion (pronounced: pree-on) This protein particle resembles a crystal, and is very difficult to destroy

Prions are neither bacterial nor viral in nature They contain no DNA - Prions reproduce by "folding" mirror images of themselves in the brain of either cows or humans - During this invasive process, areas of the brain turn into a sponge-like mass -

The medical term for Mad Cow Disease is Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis (BSE) - In lab tests, Prions have been exposed to temperatures of 680 degrees Fahrenheit and higher - The Prions survive

(Cows who die before reaching the slaughterhouse are dragged off trucks with forklifts and thrown on the "dead pile"- Their carcasses will be ground up and turned into feed for chickens and pigs in factory farms- If these cows died from mad cow disease or other contagious illnesses, the pathogens could be passed on to cats, dogs, or farmed animals who eat them

Although the Food and Drug Administration has banned the feeding of dead cows to live cows, they have not banned feeding slaughterhouse renderings to other farm animals)

(The sawed-off legs of cows are collected in barrels—they will later be rendered into fertilizer, dog and cat food, or feed for pigs and chickens in factory farms -The practice of feeding dead cows to other animals could be contributing to the spread of mad cow disease in the U

What happens to cow carcasses today? They are fed to pigs
and chickens - By eating chicken, humans may be exposed to Prions -Some scientists say that the incubation period for the human variant of the brain wasting disease may be as long as 30 years

An article in the current issue of Hoard's Dairyman (March 25, 2001, page 217) innocently reports:

"Ban on feeding ruminant meat and bone meal to ruminants may be expanded to include not feeding it to pigs and chickens, says FDA's acting commissioner - ({That} would create 10- million-ton-a-year disposal problem)"

This is what millions of dead animal carcasses represent to
dairy processors; a "disposal problem"

Ten million tons of blood and entrails, bones, and vital organs

Ten million tons of ground intestinal worms and cancerous tumors - Ten million tons of the grossest imaginable byproducts of animal slaughter -Ten million tons are equal to 20 billion pounds

There are 280 million Americans -Slaughterhouse renderings represent an average of 71 pounds worth of unmentionables per American per year - Have you eaten your three ounces of guts today? Kinda gets me right in the gut -Continue eating chicken and pork, and carry the constant image of what gives that flesh, and your flesh, its essence

How horrible!! I've been a vegetarian for 17 years and could never eat meat! I didn't even during the year 1995 which I spent in the UK... but as that was the year of the mad cow disease there (CJD), I am still not allowed to donate blood. Imagine that! Eat meat at your own risk...

The abuse and exploitation of non-human animals is pervasive throughout our society. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, in the United States, over 25 billion animals are slaughtered for human consumption every year, approximately 20 million suffer in laboratories, another 5 million are killed for their fur, and countless others are enslaved for entertainment...
This is all horrible and inhuman too....

This is why i'm a vegetarian, it is unhealthy and apart from that the way the animals are treated is barbaric.

Its not just what people do not know, its the fact people only seem to care when it involves human health. People have to start showing others that animals were never meant to ever be consumed by humans.
As long as people still think it is right to exploit life the cycle will continue, the lies will be told, the blame is placed on something else and more animals suffer.
If people do not learn to stop using animals then this pattern will always continue.
Go vegan cut your ties to the death factories, humane is still the same, free range is not free from death, dont even consume anything from farm animals as it all comes from animals that will be killed eventually. Dont fund their deaths.
I have been vegan for 7 or more years and I have never regreted it, and theres absolutely no negetive effects from it. That proved to me once and for all it is indeed how we are meant to live.

Thanks very much Lorraine for this very necessary reminder about how animals are treated for the sake of human palates!!

Same here in Spain, Cissy... because I lived in the UK for years, I'm not allowed to give blood, even though I was (am!) a vegan.

Shroedinger Watcher, you have made such a good point... most people only care when it involves human health. Well isn't this a good enough message that it's just WRONG?! It's not about human health, just look at the pictures, look at the bodies, the diseased suffering animals, the HUGE sore udders of the poor cows whose babies are taken away so that humans can steal the milk that's rightfully theirs, while they are killed (the babies). There's also the very soft suede that companies such as Loewe and other expensive makes use for their products: pregnant cows are given a cesarean so that her baby comes out without the skin getting damaged so that it can be used to make handbags, clothes, etc. Very sick indeed, very immoral. If murdering babies, raping cows, and the long etc of evils the human species practises is acceptable and legal, then the shame I feel at being human is beyond words.

How anyone can call this "necessary" or "food" is beyond me. It's really no different than trolling the interstate for road kill.... actually, that's even less offensive as the "goodies" are killed by accident. To do this deliberately is shameful - So glad I'm Vegan!

when i finally broke off the meats the energy change was wonderful, one day i had tuna though and felt a negative evergy difference.

all this really effects people on a global scale i personally believe, negative energy consumed can make you negative. i tell my family about gmo and factory farms and they did not know, it is scary how many do not know how bad this is!

thanks for this article

This is the reason that I AM A VEGETARIAN!......... Those who witness the sadistic actions of the heartless monsters that inflict agony and death on the helpless living creatures of this planet, need to take another look in the mirror. We are what we tolerate.....I wonder how some people sleep at night?

Cows do not give milk naturally. They must have a calf in order to produce milk. Veal calves stay tightly confined for up to 4 months until they are slaughtered for food.
