Elephants need your help urgently

In only a few weeks the fate of the world's remaining elephants will be determined by a dozen or more international representatives gathered around a table – the UK will be one of these representatives.

This decision will determine whether China is permitted to be a buyer (a "trading partner") of the stockpiled ivory from approximately ten thousand dead elephants from Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe. If China becomes a trading partner, IFAW and other NGOs believe that the legal ivory trade will provide a smokescreen for increased illegal ivory trade with China, a country which already has uncontrolled illegal ivory markets and is the major destination for illegal ivory shipments.

This will mean the deaths of thousands of elephants.
