"MUSLIM GIRL CONDEMNED TO DEATH FOR KILLING HER RAPIST DURING ATTACK
Society & Values (pub. 33 minutes ago - www.nazanin.ca/...)
on Jan 3 2006 an 18 year old girl named nazanin was sentenced to death for fatally stabbing one of three of her male attackers i tehran . there is still time to possibly save her. please go to the petition on the site .It is an international petition. "
This is from Sophia D:s news submit yesterday - It depressed me so that after I signed the petition I wanted to help making it known - please, sign the petition
http://www.petitiononline.com/Nazanin/
The petition-text clearly states the case - the girl who was attacked faces hanging, not even her being only 17 when this happened seems to save her - the petition is directed to Kofi Annan at the UN and several others.
Iran is still far from Equal Rights for Women, if she hadn't defended herself she could have been stoned for having had sex outside marriage - yes, I know: it's so horrifying you won't believe your eyes - but please, do sign the petition - it really can make a difference!

I signed. THanks for highlighting it. I just hope people don't start assuming that this is Islamic practice. IT's NOT! This is government related.
Peace, Guiti

Every action causes a reaction. To be raped and then sentenced to die by those who could possibly call themselves lawful will cause the global community to think it's courts are as barbaric as the terrorists who enjoy the self proclaimed fame. Changing course in favor of Sophia will open the global community's eyes to an enlightened court system with each of it's members diligently seeking the gates of heaven.

This is just the support we get world wide ie if you defend yourself then you insantly become the guilty one what did the authorities expect this young girl to do lye there and let it happen, then they would have said she encouraged this attack in the name of all that's sacred save this girl she has suffered enough from the attack

I signed too. Any penal system that punishes the victim for the crimes of the perpetrators is unjust and inhumane. I hope Nazanin will be saved by our actions.

first I would like to say that I do not like sticking my nose into other countries business.
that being said and the fact that women in the middle eastern countries are second class citizens
and are treated in accordance with the civic and moral laws of their country. not knowing the law and facts of the case I must say it is in the hands of Alla

Please sign this petition even if you think it can't save Nazanin - it will never the less mean so much to eventually to encourage and heal the wounds of her family and friends, and all the young girls and all warmhearted women and men in Iran who hear about how many people in the world sympathized with Nazanin, being the victim of both attackers and a cruel political system, pretending to be religious, but which of course isn't. For my own part I could well imagine that massive international attention to the case could both influence the outcome (she could be pardoned for example) and it could be that an individual case is the starting point for another praxis, especially in countries with a case-law system, where you refer to earlier verdicts when pleading a case. International attention has influenced cases before, and in this hope I signed the petition and spread the message about it! I'm very grateful that there are so many people of all faiths, who do sign! Always ask the victims if it's to stick your nose wrongly in other countries or peoples business when you show you care, never ever ask the offenders about that. Offenders will always want to keep you out of their way.

WOW! Where do you draw the line here? If you DON"T defend yourself against rape, you are stoned to death and if you DO defend yourself and it ends up that an attacker is killed in the process, the victim dies too! How can Iran justify these barbaric, inane laws? There must be SOMEONE in the judicial system with enough power to initiate a legislative reform of some sort. This is not a "backwoods" country any longer!

What this young lady did was a desperate act of self-preservation. She should NOT be punished for it! Darlene A.

Dear Harlee - you made this sharebook, blog, alert, of the text I (on April 23.) wrote and forwarded on the base of Sophia Dalle's news-submit about Nazanin, then (Billie) Marie Hill with great success made frontpage-news of your share and lots of people from Care2 took lots of different initiatives to help Nazanin and now the news is spreading that she will not be hanged!
Isn't it worth celebrating! Thanks for caring and sharing - I'm so happy for your decisive action! And in my heart I enjoy the link that this establishes between you and me! And between all of us who signed and did things to spread the information!
Love and blessings!
Doris :-)
