Aug 23rd First real news and contact - meet Stephanie
Dear Isabella,
Thank you very much for your interest and love in Dante.
I am Stephanie Jun and I am a volunteer for CARE, helping them with international relations since the most of CARE members has limited capability of english language. I currently reside in L.A, US. I go to Korea back and forth.
Dogs from CARE shelter are adopted mostly by families and individuals in Korea. However, recently dogs find their new homes in southern california, US, where we have a couple of volunteer workers who check and interview prospective homes. Six dogs have found wonderful new homes in San Diego and L.A area in 2008!
Regarding the possible adoption of Dante, please consider the following ;
1. Provide us with the any kind proof that shows you have adequate housing condition and income source available. This doesn't have to be offical documents with any authrities. CARE would like to mangage the process on trust-basis.
- photos of the housing, any document or paper that shows your addresss with your name
- income source or employment status.
2. You have to bear the cost of transportation(flight and carriage. This can be costly). Only direct flight to the final destination is acceptible. This is to minimize the stress that traveling animal may suffer from.
3. CARE may cover the expenses for medical check-ups prior to departure. Rabies vacc and other treatment will be given if necessary.
4. Check the quarantine requirement in your country. If the quaratine process takes longer than a day upon arrival, we would not recommend.
5. Follow-ups ;
- CARE may require you to send a picture and a short memo on how he's been doing every quarter.
Dante has won the hearts of members and volunteer workers at the shelter! He's been doing well. He loves to wag his tail and to give kisses. We have found out that Dante understands some words - Sit and Hand(We assume that he had learned it somewhere before he could have ended up in the dogmeat market).
If you need more information or want to discuss on the possible adoption, please let me know. We'd love to find a forever home for Dante.
Warm regards,
Jihyun Stephanie Jun

Dear Stephanie Jun,
First off let me laudably commend you on your personal effort and that of your organization.
As I pointed out I am myself an animal rescue volunteer – you can visit my page on Care2, in order to get a better picture. You also can visit my partners’ profile on http://candriotis.spaces.live.com/
To see more pictures of our house, Chiara our rescue dog, Sebastian one of our cats, Piccolina another cat of ours – we have 4 (3 rescue). We live in a single family dwelling with a garden, but our dogs are members of our family – so they sleep with us, in their own baskets and beds – or on the couch. Our older dog Misha – left us and went over Rainbow bridge last April. He was an Alaskan Malamute Mix (Ex street dog) and we had to euthanize him because of cancer at age 13. He was wonderful and we miss him dearly.
Chiara has been with us now for 3 years and she used to get along with Misha just fine. She has lost 2 playmates of hers recently due to poisoning.
I can provide you with letters of recommendations of at least 3 vets, animal welfare group, neighbors’, friends .. etc…
I sure would love to send you pics of Dante – with current newspaper visible in pic, for date prove, as I would like to show him of and talk about his progress.
Malamutes are very sociable dogs and do not like it at all to be chained or alone – they need their pack and get very depressed when they do not get enough interaction. I am planning on using clicker training with Dante and sign language. Training is not as much as a concern to me, rather sometimes kennel or confinement destructive behavior, separation anxiety, neurotic behavior such as excessive licking, chewing, self mutilation, eating of feces … I would appreciate some feedback on that and as well if he is food protective or aggressive towards cats.
How old is he?
Quarantine – there is none for Greece.
Flight and flight cost, duration etc – please inform me of weight, crate size and departure Airport. Destination Airport would be ATH - Athens. Dog would need to be micro chipped, vaccinated with a health certificate and with rabies shots not older than 6 months.
I have no idea on how much the flight would cost – do you? But I am sure that I can find some sponsors for the ticket. I would castrate him here as I can do this with my vet and through the animal group I am working with.
If it is ok with you – let’s work from here. Should Dante find a good loving home in Korea, then I would step back in order to spare the poor dog the trauma of being caged again in a dark crate. Otherwise let me know as much as possible about him (pics etc) – also the negative sides please.
With my best regards and a cuddle to Dante
Isabella
