Once a year, a known bullfighter stages an event in Guayaquiol, Ecuador, the city where I live. The mayor is in favor of bullfights, so he authorizes the use of the roofed sports coliseum, because there is no arena in town. Bullfighting has never been traditional in this city. However, in the capital, which is located 280 miles from here, a long tradition exists. The next bullfight is to take place here in less than one month.  Many fellow citizens are against it, but the event will take place in spite of foreseen protests and scuffles.
