Nov 22, 2008

November 22nd has come and gone pretty much like any other day

Forty-five years ago, however, was a much different story.

Forty-five years ago we lost a friend, champion of justice and a new hope.

To those of us alive at the time, President Kennedy represented a new hope and a new dream of things to come.

I first learned of President Kennedy in 1982 in my fifth grade class. I was enamored by his speaking style, values and a face that just said "everything will be alright"

I can imagine how shattered the world was when he was struck down. When I learned as a kid that he was assassinated I asked my teacher where she was on that day.

She simply shook her head and walked away.

Later that evening at dinner I asked my mom the same question.

She too, shook her head paused for a good number of minutes and shed a tear and nothing else was said.

Where were you on that day?

Hmmm...I was two years old, in Honolulu. President Kennedy came to the islands, and my mother says he patted me on the head..heh. My heart sinks when I think of that day. Thank you Michael

I vividly remember that day. I was 5 years old and in AM Kindergarten. I was home from school and eating lunch with my mother when the news came on the TV. I didn't understand what was happening, but my mother started crying and I remember trying to make her laugh. My family felt very connected to the Kennedys because my brother and I were the same ages as Caroline and John John. The sadness was so big even to a 5 year old.

I was on my way to downtown Detroit with my sister when the news broke on the radio. My sister was very upset and I was stunned.

I was 14, freshman in High School...
they announced that President Kennedy
had been shot over the PA system.
It was a Catholic school for boys, so
we prayed the rosary in class...
Everyone was stunned, the bell rang to change classes... I remember the teacher began to
talk and that's when the second announcement
that President Kennedy had died came over
the PA and it was if all the air had leftt the
room...Silence and a few tears...
School was dismissed after that period...
When I saw
my dad was outside waiting, I knew it was 'real'
cause I always walked home from school.

I was 5 years old by then. JFK was the American Hero for us and I remember that I cried when I understood that he was shot. I allways will remember his voice coming from our Radio (I did'nt understand a word as I learned english only 10 years later)

I was in tenth grade and at my school when the horrible news came. We all cried. I will never forget John Jr saluting his father's casket as it went by in a horse drawn carriage.

I was in biology class, in 8th grade. The teacher was unexpectedly called out, and when he came back, he was ashen. We could see something terrible had happened. When he announced JFK's death, his voice broke with emotion and tears. We were all stunned & heartbroken.
