Thank you for coming to stand up for the incarcerated mentally ill.  VERY IMPORTANT - PLEASE SEE THIS:

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist; And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist; And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew; And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up."

This is a famous poem with a timeless message, but it has one untruth.  First they came for the mentally ill in Germany, not the Communists.  Please read this:

During the Nazi regime, Germany engaged in the systematic killing of the mentally ill and handicapped as a first step in  fulfilling Hitler's vision of building the perfect Aryan race.

The Jewish Virtual Library reports:

"In October 1939,
Hitler himself initiated a decree which empowered physicians to grant a 'mercy death' to 'patients considered incurable according to the best available human judgment of their state of health.' The intent of the so-called 'euthanasia' program, however, was not to relieve the suffering of the chronically ill. The Nazi regime used the term as a euphemism:  its aim was to exterminate the mentally ill and the handicapped, thus 'cleansing' the 'Aryan' race of persons considered genetically defective and a financial burden to society."

Hitler reportedly sent to physicians and the general public the message that mental patients were 'useless eaters' and life unworthy of life.

No, things are far from being that bad.  In fact, conditions for the mentally ill in America are really looking up!  This year our legislators worked together from both sides of the aisle and enacted bills to provide better access to care for our mentally ill citizens.  Three very important bills!

CONGRATULATIONS, REPRESENTATIVES!  THANK YOU FOR RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT.

Furthermore, the Bush Administration reported that homelessness is down this year due to a new program that provides permanent housing and basic subsistence for chronically homeless persons.   These are excellent developments.

However, there are still many reasons to be concerned for these vulnerable citizens.  About 1.25 million prisoners in the U.S. have mental disorders. We believe they should either be removed to secure hospital environments to promote HEALING, or released to community care under mandatory treatment provisions, depending on their offenses.  Despite significant advancements in 2008 that improve mental patients' access to care, our new laws do not affect acute psychiatric patients who lack the wherewithal to seek treatment.

Almost every month, one reads of another mental patient being Tasered to death or badly abused, either by thugs in their communities or as prisoners. Sometimes, abuses and deaths of psychiatric patients are swept under the rug rather than investigated and prosecuted.  Everyone should have equal protection under the law.  And no one should be imprisoned for being sick.

I have reflected often on the Nazi's murdering their mentally ill citizens during the five years since my brother's secret death.  If the lives of our mentally ill, disabled, and terminally ill citizens are undervalued to the degree I find that my brother Larry's was, then Americans should be concerned for relatives and friends who are challenged by Alzheimer’s, Autism, Down Syndrome, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression, dementia, and those who are elderly or suffer from terminal illnesses.  All such people were considered expendable in Nazi Germany.  Whereas the U.S. is nothing like Nazi Germany, the mentally ill in our country do seem to hold second class citizenship.

We are working to change that.  Great strides have already been made recently to relieve the mentally ill and their families regarding improvements in job protection for workers and placing mental health care on a par with physical illness in insurance plans.  We at AIMI are confident that mental illness will eventually be decriminalized in America.  Let us keep a good thing going!

You made a wonderful decision to come help, AIMI members!  Please just choose a committee and let's get to work!  If you have little time, there is still much you can do.  For instance:

1)  invite your friends to join AIMI,

2)  sign and promote our petitions,

3)
send news you find about mental illness to Mairead, our host and our Internet news Committee chair, and

4)  please mention Assistance to the Incarcerated Mentally Ill when you note Care2 news (use the whole name and let them know they can find us in the HR groups at Care2).

Also, if you comment on news presented anywhere on the Internet, mention the work we are doing to:

a)  decriminalize mental illness in America,

b)  reduce the stigma associated with mental dysfunctions,

c)  educate the public as to the immorality and high cost of criminalizing this common health problem,

d)  eliminate private prisons,

e)  encourage more responsiveness for U.S.A.'s mentally ill citizens from our legislators and public policy decision-makers,

f)   render practical, personal assistance to families impacted by imprisonment of their mentally ill loved ones,

g)  advocate against the death penalty, especially for mental patients, children, and condemned persons whose guilt is not proved,

h)  promote enforced treatment for acute mental patients who don't realize they need psychiatric help, in order to avoid crisis situations that endanger the patients and society and put the patients at risk for imprisonment, and

i)  read and contribute to our posts and start new discussions.

Bless you for becoming an AIMI member!  You already helped just by joining.  I thank you, and all of us at AIMI welcome you!

I am sorry for what happened to your brother. It is truly tragic.
I have type II bipolar disorder. For years I was misdiagnosed and given medication that only made me feel worse. I couldn't hold a job. I was made to feel like a loser or like I was only seeking attention. When I tried to commit suicide at 16 I had a mental health technician tell me that I was a "freak," that I would never be "normal." The worthless so called psychiatrist diagnosed me as a "hysterical neurotic."
I'm not sure what else I can do but I will share your story where I can.
Peace,
Lily

Thank you, Lily. It is very difficult to share this story. You will run into awesome opposition. The media blacklists it, civil rights groups pretend not to know it, and I have to remain a prisoner in my home because I am followed and waylaid when I go out. My articles are being replaced on the Internet with some DNS Park (see my share of 1/1/9), and nothing is being done apparently to protect my safety and my family's safety. So, if you can help let people know, thanks.

Mary Neal and Family...You are in my thoughts and prayers. There must come an end to all this madness. Justice doe's need to be served, they need to admit to the Truth of this matter.

Blessings,
Love, MzJanice

I don't know if they will allow you to get my email. But I promised to stop asking about Larry Neal if they just let me live and leave my family alone. The threats have gotten worse. The stalking is more often and involves more people. I made a new Share about it. FEEL FREE TO REMOVE YOUR NAMES FROM OUR PETITION TO THE USDOJ ASKING FOR AN INVESTIGATION ABOUT LARRY NEAL. I don't want any of my friends to go through the fear and danger we do.

THE POLICE WON'T EVEN ASK ANGELA MASON HOW SHE KNEW THE COLOR OF THE CAR THAT FOLLOWED ME HOME FROM WORK IN JAN. AND FEB- AND I NEVER TOLD ANYONE THE COLOR.

They won't help us. No one will, except you tried to support and help us. We thought Larry had rights. I am sorry I bothered everybody. Just forget it and go back to your lives. I just want them not to kidnap and hold for ransom anyone in my family like they flashed on my screen the other day. I don't want them waiting for me like the Affidavits in my court case shows - affidavits by business owners and the people who resuced my little grandsone and me (see Cochran Firm Fraud 1 and 2).

So forget about Larry Neal. He is with the Lord, and the Lord is going to take care of wrongdoers some day. NOT MY PROBLEM.

Thanks for all your support.

Mary

Mary, I am very content that you mention the German camps concerning the euthanasia of the mental patients during the last world war , because this state of mind unfortunately remained in manners and still overpowers many of our fellow-citizens, the psychiatric wing still lived camp of Ausweis or Dachau, and one announces to the internees HO (Hospitalization of Office) equalizes Dachau, which in France from Vichy is very frequent towards any protestor U little too marginal of the great political parties, and thus in margin of any civil protection coming from these parties, against any hospitalization of their militants. More especially as the fate of the interned demented person is brought back to that of resistant and thus to the torture which they must undergo there, towards very thought which to them would be considered offence of opinion, to return to my strict hobby-horse.
